Poor Duracoat experience.. lesson learned.

There have been thousands of Duracoat and other finishes done at home that have turned out great, it is in the prep and careful application. I cannot draw a straight line but have had some success with Brownell's spray finish and Duracoat. My local gunsmith has done hundreds of firearms with Duracoat and the company seems to be doing ok selling a jillion colors of it, point is the product must be applied carefully and evenly and then left alone to cure.

I feel every now and then I wish to build an AR that is a little different, equipment or color wise. The spray finishes allow me to accomplish that end, I do not need to spray the world just a few select pieces.

Man this forum is great. I may inherit my brothers 30 yr plus Kimber compact. It's been rode hard an put up wet. It looks like crap ( pics if I get it ) but shoots like a Kimber. I was thinking of what I would do to it if I get it. This thread just made me THINK and I will do nothing but clean it and the finish is how my brother liked it.
