Police Warn Against 'Vigilante' Behavior

Solution

The solution to all of this is: JOIN THE NRA AND NEVER VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT. DEMOCRATS ARE SELLING OUR RIGHTS DOWN THE RIVER FOR VOTES BY MARXIST URBAN CITIZENS AND ILLEGAL ALIENS.:barf:

I have no problem waiting for the police protection................................and providing my own protection while I'm waiting:) If they have a problem with it I guess it will have to be discussed in court, but at least I'll be living to discuss it. Worst case, I'll have died trying to provide my own security while I wait. Their way I just die waiting for protection.

Blackwater, the point wasn't that you'd have to die. The point was that, after successfully defending yourself from the attackers, you could also sue the pants off of the fools!!

Maybe I missed something here, why would you think that I was advocating the Oakland Idiots position? A follow-on lawsuit would go a long ways towards the type of political circus that the Oaklands City Council would hate to participate in. It could also seriously undermine any political aspirations held by anyone connected with this mess. That's worse than death to a politician. So, not only do you reach a healthy settlement quietly, but the chances of them using you as political fodder also escapes out the window for them.:)

Of course the Oakland City Council and OSO don't want store owners shooting gangs of robbers....

...it's an election year. Can't be shooting Oakland CC's constituency, now, can we? :p

Eghad, the whole point I was making was that the term vigilante should not always mean a person who deprives another of their rights without cause. Also- punish crime summarily (as when the processes of law appear inadequate)

If you have a police department and an established court system....that argument is not going to fly. You will find yourself on the short end of the stick in Kali.

What you must do is find out what the state laws are concerning protection of self and others and property. Use those laws to protect yourself, others and property and the Police can cry Vigilante all he wants to.....

First off, this is a moral argument on my part, not a legal one. Just because the dictionary vindicates me does not mean I will not go to jail.

Second, tell the people in the wake of katrina or here during the 92' riots about the "police department and established court system". Where were they where people were being dragged from their cars and beaten to death, possessions stolen or destroyed, burned to death in their own homes, ect. The police were NOT around and few if any of the perps involved have or will ever be brought to justice. What about when the man who raped and murdered a little girl is let off by a liberal judge, or due to a technicality of the law? What if she was your little girl? That is what is meant by "when the processes of law appear inadequate". And if I take the law into my own hands I should be punished by the law, that is the price we pay for living in a "civilized" country.

I repeat-
A person should be proud of vigilance and watching over others and themselves, particularly when the the "law" is given a chance and fails to do so. If one breaks the law in the process one is not a vigilante but a rival criminal.
The question here is where the moral high ground lies, in breaking the law to defend life and property from looters and killers, or doing nothing proactive and standing by while the situation runs its course.

The point was that, after successfully defending yourself from the attackers, you could also sue the pants off of the fools!!

I want to agree with you, I just find myself thinking this will never happen.

A natural disaster such as Katrina is a different matter. You might get more leeway in that case. If the person ceases and desists his activity and goes on his way I am not going to shoot him. If it is during a natural disaster and I am confronted by two or three individuals and I have a firearm and they keep coming and I am afraid for my life they will get some lead poisioning. New Orleans had no functioning police department that I could see. I would say that natural disaster is is a different ballgame from everday. A riot would probably fall under that same extenuating circumstances too.

HAHA! "POLICE WARN..."
So f'in what. police have been warning people not to do this or that for..., heck, since there have been police. Since when do i need to listen to a group of people who are so seperated from the real world? Officials? whats that? an Official what? Officially out of touch w/ reality is about it.

Police are 99% report-takers

such idiotic statements by LEOs I've not heard in awhile. Attn: Oakland Police Chief - you are a disgrace to the badge and to the profession, and if you had any integrity left, you'd resign now! :barf:
