Police: Oops, wrong house.

Richmond beat me to the Hudson citation, but if the rest of y'all want read the new law of the land in full, here it is:
http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/05pdf/04-1360.pdf

And here's the thread where I was ridiculed by people who had not read the decision, telling me that because Hudson was a bad guy we should not worry that any cop serving any warrant now has the individual power to do a no-knock, courts and supervisors be damned.:D

The police may hit the wrong place on a basis other than simple wrong address. When we moved to Snohomish County WA in 1992 it was right after an incident in which a SWAT Team sergeant had shot a woman in the head during a dynamic entry. Another local agency (of dubious competence I have heard from knowkedgeable people in that city) told the County Sheriff that an individual had participated in an armed robbery, and a warrant was issued. Had anyone bothered to check they would have found the man was at work when the robbery occurred, but no one did. The SWAT Team stormed the house behind a volley of flash-bangs and all in the house did their duty as good citizens and groveled as expected. In the course of events one of the cops shot the woman of the house in the head with an MP-5, killing her. (Yes, her husband was expected to remain prone and immobile at the sight of his wife's brains being splattered onto the floor). SWAT Team members are supposed to be posessed of extraordinary expertise due to their legthy and extensive training, so why was the safety off, and why was his finger on the trigger? A 12 year old in hunter safety knows you keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have decided to fire, and H&K guns don't have 8 oz triggers. The cop incurred no penalty other than reassignment and the good taxpayers of Snohomish County paid some paltry sum to the grieving husband. If I machine gunned a groveling woman it would be murder 1, but he wasn't even charged with negligent homicide and still carries a gun in the name of The State. Anyone who doubts this can PM me for names of the shooter and the victim.

so why was the safety off

It's pretty standard when a team gets in the stack for entry weapons safeties come off for entry. Granted his finger should have been out of the trigger. Sounds like they hit the house they intended to hit though.
How does it relate to hitting the wrong house:confused:

It was the wrong house because the perp they wanted was not the resident. They got the right address, but the wrong person. Besides, the theme of this thread is how would one react. You wouldn't know if the invading armed men had the wrong address or were acting on erroneous information. It wouldn't change how the incident went down.

You mean to tell me the Army takes not accidentally shooting someone more seriously that SWAT teams? Because when we teach Enter/Clear a Room, we teach that the selector stays on SAFE until you're on a target.

When you shoot first and ask questions later you will have problems. In Minneapolis this week a plain clothes cop pulled a guy over for a road rage incedent, the guy pulled over then shot the plain clothes cop,OOOOOOOPS he is now in jail. why did he pull over if he was going to shoot right away?? Stupidity on his part will get him prison time and so be it. If you carry you better know what and who you are shooting at or thats what will happen. To many trigger happy people out there. Yes Cops do raid the wrong place but when it happens it makes the news and national TV. when a guy flys through the windshield of his car along wiht his kids because they were not secured wich happens many times a day in the us we dont stop to think about it. Why Do we worry about the miniscule chances of Cops at the wrong place but dont take the proper precautions when we drive with our family? or better yet want to shoot anyone who come close to them for any reason yet smoke in the house with them in it????

Liberals, on the other hand, tend to see the police as always wrong and real criminals as innocent victims.

Are these the same "liberals" that think self-defense can only be obtained by police action? You can't have it both ways...which is it?

I do not believe that every wrong address raid makes the news and national TV.
How do you know the people posting in this thread do NOT take the proper precautions when they travel with their childred?
How do you know these people also smoke around their children?

You can't prevent being the victim of a wrong address raid.
You can prevent the things you brought up.
What is your point?

My point is when i go to bed tonight i am not the least bit worried about the cops kicking in my door. I wont give it one single thought. I am not paranoid. Ihave better things to worry about. To many people worry about this kind of miniscule chance garp than the things that have a better chance of happening. I knew a guy who would not shower at the health club as he could not carry in the shower. He also would no go to the club without his gun. Not just in his car no he had to carry. thats paranoid. As for how do i know about kids and people not buckled in my good friend is a paramedic. I hear all the stories.
