The police may hit the wrong place on a basis other than simple wrong address. When we moved to Snohomish County WA in 1992 it was right after an incident in which a SWAT Team sergeant had shot a woman in the head during a dynamic entry. Another local agency (of dubious competence I have heard from knowkedgeable people in that city) told the County Sheriff that an individual had participated in an armed robbery, and a warrant was issued. Had anyone bothered to check they would have found the man was at work when the robbery occurred, but no one did. The SWAT Team stormed the house behind a volley of flash-bangs and all in the house did their duty as good citizens and groveled as expected. In the course of events one of the cops shot the woman of the house in the head with an MP-5, killing her. (Yes, her husband was expected to remain prone and immobile at the sight of his wife's brains being splattered onto the floor). SWAT Team members are supposed to be posessed of extraordinary expertise due to their legthy and extensive training, so why was the safety off, and why was his finger on the trigger? A 12 year old in hunter safety knows you keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have decided to fire, and H&K guns don't have 8 oz triggers. The cop incurred no penalty other than reassignment and the good taxpayers of Snohomish County paid some paltry sum to the grieving husband. If I machine gunned a groveling woman it would be murder 1, but he wasn't even charged with negligent homicide and still carries a gun in the name of The State. Anyone who doubts this can PM me for names of the shooter and the victim.
