"Police looting" is not true...more media hype!

There's some interesting commentary on this subject in this blog, apparently being sent from downtown New Orleans. The police force seems to have stopped acting as an organized entity.

The blog makes interesting reading. Lord of the Flies, Planet of the Apes and Escape from New York all in one. . .

Cheers,

I believe that's the blog from the guy at directnic.com from the first thread that got locked. I don't know about the accuracy of all the rumors he hears, but it appears that directnic.com's datacenter in New Orleans is still up and running.

I remember reading about the astounding low pay scale the NOPD has. The numbers were so low, they were almost requests for corruption. Certainly, a big difference from Chicago LE pay.

Police officers are not better people - but they are held to a higher standard. If the NO cops feel they can get away with taking stuff, it is because no one in charge holds them to a standard.

NO, its because they are crooks wearing a badge. Dont pass the buck because they are LEO's, each person makes his/her on choices.

How many of them are crooks? Do you have any definitive numbers or are you just lumping all Nawlins officers as dirty cops?

Think about it for a minute.

Suppose you are a LEO and you are left with ten thousand citizens in public shelters, many of them kids who are bored and scared. You have permission from Wal Mart to take what you need to care for the people during the emergency. So you take a handful of CDs to take down to the shelter to keep the kids quiet and just before you write them down in your IOU ledger some guy takes your picture. Or maybe it is a trunkful of teeshirts for the cold, half naked kids or maybe a computer to use in the temporary command post.

Of course they're not ALL crooks. Neither are D.C.'s. But the departments got their reputations the old fashioned way - they earned them.

Here's a quote about one New Orleans' case:

"In New Orleans, 11 police officers were convicted of accepting nearly $100,000 from undercover agents to protect a cocaine supply warehouse containing 286 pounds of cocaine. The undercover portion of the investigation was terminated when a witness was killed under orders from a New Orleans police officer.

Problem. There is no water, no telephone service, no gas, no electricity, temps are running 86 degrees and above with 100% humidity. No sewage system. The idea of a NOPD officer grabbing computers and CDs, DVDs or games for supplying youths entertainment, doesn't add up. There are reports from the media of looted copper water pipe being sold for recycle by a police sergeant. There are some bad LEOs in every city, county, state and federal agency. I simply wonder in this video age, why loot in broad daylight? Stupidity or honesty, time will tell.
