Pocket holster

Anyone on here have an opinion on the Ross pocket holster for a S&W 642? It looks pretty good for pocket carry but I would like some opinions.
 
I am not familiar with Ross.

I have used Sam Andrews, Simply Rugged, and Bob Mika pocket holsters with my 442, and would recommend any of those.

I haven't tried a Remora with the 442, but might look at those, as I like the larger IWB Remoras.
 
My 640 is carried in either a DeSantis Nemesis or Uncle Mike's pocket holster. I used the Uncle Mike's for twelve years before people here recommended the Nemesis. Now I use whichever works best with the pocket of the pants I'm wearing that day.

I think the Nemesis does a slightly better job of reducing printing and keeping the gun properly positioned for a smooth draw.

Both are inexpensive and durable.
 
My Vote

+1 on the Mika pocket holster. The round bottom version seems to work best in jeans (at least for me).
 
The only pocket holsters I have experience with are the DeSantis Nemisis. (Or Superfly version of the Nemisis.)
The reason being they work, and work well. For me there was no need to look farther.
I have them for my Elsie Pea, KAHR CM9, and Ruger LCR. Where some particular pockets aren't compatable with the larger handguns, the LCP conceals easily with the DeSantis Superfly, optional fly or not, anywhere.
At times the KAHR rides in a Theis Hybrid IWB holster, while Elsie hides easily in the pocket as a BUG.
 
I'm partial to Pocket Concealment Systems. Great design and execution, looks mighty fine too. The side that faces outward is completely flat, aiding in concealment.


 
I Love Andrews Leather pocket holsters. Have one for the Nano and one for the 638. They fit great, and cover the trigger, have a low imprint, and stay in the pocket, rough side out, when YOu draw the gun. See image

I have a DeSantis, Mika and Simply Rugged pocket holster.

I prefer the Simply Rugged because it grips in my pocket the best and I can draw from it faster.
 
It's interesting that many of the holsters pictured appear to be made from leather, or some other materal, with a portion covered with the same material that the entire DeSantis Nemisis is made from. And at twice the price, or more!

Not sure I'd like the stiffness of a kydex pocket holster. Like the hybrid IWB models, but plastic seems way to rigid for pocket carry. JMHO

The kydex they use is super thin, so the holsters are stiff yet somewhat flexible with zero bulk. I have tried both leather (DeSantis pocket tuk) and nylon (DeSantis super fly) but find that kydex pocket holsters just work for me better. The kydex is smooth and just seems to disappear in my pocket. I also like that with kydex any sweat that condenses on the holster can just be wiped off at the end of the day.
 
I've never used a Ross pocket holster, but I've tried a few pocket holsters over the years. Because I am only a part-time CCWer (I live in MD where I cannot carry, so I only carry when in other states where I can), I usually have bought cheaper holsters for my pocket holsters (I had a couple good IWB and OWB holsters for my bigger CCW guns though). I have used fairly regularly Uncle Mike's, Desantis Pocket Pal, Desantis Nemesis, and Desantis Superfly pocket holsters.

I now only use the Uncle Mike's holster with my smallest CCW pistol (a Ruger LCP). The nylon lining is slippery and it doesn't always hold the gun in the holster well (I've never had it fall out of a pocket, yet). I love my Nemesis and Superfly holsters. They are what I currently use for my S&W 442 and all I've used for my SIG P290RS and Kel Tec Pf-9. The interior isn't as slippery as the Uncle Mike's though it is still a slippery nylon that doesn't always hold the gun perfectly stationary. The outer material of the Uncle Mike's is quite "grippy" (not a real word, but probably works better than any real words :) ), the Nemesis is more grippy, and the Superfly even more so. The holster will never shift in the pocket. The leather Pocket Pal holds the gun better, and the rough out leather is pretty good at gripping the pocket and resisting shifting in the pocket, but I don't like that the revolver version doesn't cover the trigger (a worry in a pocket holster for a DA revolver).

If you aren't too active (where there may be a slim chance of the nylon liner causing the gun to fall out of the holster) I would strongly recommend the Nemesis or Superfly. The outer material does a great job of keeping the holster from shifting (the gun may fall out of the holster, but the holster will never fall out of your pocket), they conceal well, and the prices are incredible. If you are more active and want to be sure the gun can't move within the holster, I'd stay with leather. Personally, I am thinking about the Desantis Pocket-Tuk as my next pocket holster, though I'm not 100% sure about how well a holster that can do two jobs will really do either (it is a pocket and tuckable IWB holster).

Or, just buy any other brand of Pocket Holster, but get it in left-hand.
 
Another fan of Bob Mika's holsters. Ugly but functional. I can carry my 442 easily in cargo shorts and most of my khakis. However, too big for my Wrangler jeans.
