+1 for the Airweight but in .32 Mag. 432 is the hammerless, 431 with. .No longer made but they're out there. Great little package.

If she's the least bit competent in handling an automatic, I would suggest a Browning 1910 .380.

S&W 442 or 642, all she has to remember is to point it and pull the trigger. Easy to load and unload....no pulling the slide back which is often difficult for a lot of women. Hornady Critical Defense .38 Special would be good ammo for her too.

Pocket Gun For A Woman

When my wife decided it was time(finally), we took a tour of the safe. No semis for her. She is a big advocate of the "less is more" philosophy. She liked my spare HD gun, a Rossi .38 snub. Recoil was not an issue so we wound up with a 649 ( because I insisted on first line for her) and added Pachmayr grips for a more secure hold. Momma's happy. You know that if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
