Pocket Gun/CCW

I've recently purchased a Glock 19 and had intended on using it for range practice and as a CCW. I don't have any complaints when it comes to taking it to the range and I'm sure that over time I'd adjust to using it for CC. I'm fairly new to handguns but have been reading a lot recently on "Pocket Guns". I've heard both positive and negative comments when it comes to Seecamp. I like the idea of being able to carry something that small. With the 19 I worry that someone will notice me wearing something underneath my shirt and I'd prefer to be as discrete as possible while carrying. Any thoughts on a small pocket gun that is reasonably priced, proven and something that I might be able to just slip into my pocket? Thanks.

I have heard good and bad things about winning the lottery...but the good things far outweigh the bad. It is all about perspective and percentages.

From what I've read, I'd agree with you Playboypenguin. I was just hoping to that someone with some additional experience in this area could recomend some other choices that they've had good luck with and that were reasonably priced.

The Ruger LCP would be a good place to start your search for a pocket gun. The only draw back that I see with the LCP is that .380 ammo is a real bear to find right now.

Pocket Fun

I like a Smith and Wesson Air Weight (.38 special+P) for the pocket of my Carhart in the winter time. It's a 5 shot and like the name suggests, it's very light. If you are gassing up and somebody is out approaching patrons at the pump, you can have your finger right on the trigger and nobody is the wiser. It's a real nice feeling to have the lil' fella. I like to carry my Glock 27 or 26 in a Blackhawk serpa holster with a loose t-shirt for everyday warm weather carry. Nobody can be sure if it's a cell phone or if it's even there at all. Hit the range and practice so the short handle on any of them doesn't throw you. With practice comes confidence. The 26 has very light recoil. The Smith is a banger! Load it as hot as you please. I like Gold Dots.

I like the kel-tec p32.
Been using it for 5 yrs now with out a hick-up after 25 rds.
fits in my back pocket in a little uncle mikes holster and know one knowes it's there.

Such a homer! :p

Anyways, I like Seecamp and Kel-Tec. You couldn't pay me to carry a ruger lcp.

The term "pocket gun" is a very broad term that can mean quite different things to many people. For example, there are at least two of us on this forum that consider a 3" 1911 to be a pocket gun and carry one thusly. A lot depends on how one dresses; Spandex biker shorts vs. cargo pants. Large pockets and overhanging loose shirts allow one to pocket-carry a lot more firepower.

Just thought I'd throw my observations out there. :)

I would not recommend a pocket semi-auto for a beginner shooter. ALL pocket semi-autos are difficult to shoot reliably and accurately - typically due to small grip and limited power available in cartridge. Heavy felt recoil makes it difficult to learn to shoot accurately.

That being said, the Seecamp has a good reputation. I carry a similar gun, the NAA Guardian, in .32ACP almost daily and rarely carry my G19.

Also consider a snub-nose revolver - slightly larger than the Seecamp but simple operation.

Another option might be one of the NAA Mini revolvers. Tiny and .22 rimfire. Mine is .22MAG with the 1-5/8" barrel and a spare long rifle cylinder. Great little gun, but it is single action and will take lots of practice to shoot accurately. The .22lr cylinder allows inexpensive practice while the .22 magnum allows a little more power. You can even use shot-shells if you like (very short range).

I don't have a problem carrying my G19. I use a Crossbreed Supertuck holster. Loose t-shirts help, but I've always worn those anyway. Try a few different holsters if you can. Go to a big gun store and use one of their guns to try on several different kinds of holsters. I was nervous carrying a gun that size too at first, but you'll realize that almost no one pays any attention to those around them and concealing (once you've found the right rig) isn't so hard.

I have looked at the LCP and the Kel Tec P3at. The LCP is the higher quality product, IMHO, but the trigger on teh Kel tec again, IMHO, is way better than the LCP.

Anyway, my 2 cents

400 flawless rounds thru my LCP.I just dont like the fact it has no firing pin block
Trigger not bad for what it is just long
My Kahr has a much better trigger and its safer

pocket pistol

Kel Tec p32 is my favorite pocket pistol. Small, accurate (for a pocket pistol), reliable and light as hell.I love this thing. Yuo can carry this thing all day long. Oh Yes it's made in thUSA too.:)

I know what you meant, and I am an absolute believer in pocket carry, but I keep my finger OFF the trigger until the handgun is out of my pocket and aimed at the target. I do agree it's nice to be able to inconspicuously get the gun in hand when things feel "dicey".

OH, yeah. +1 on the LCP and the .38 Airweight. I have and carry both and trust both, but my #1 every day carry is a Kahr PM9 in a Nemesis, in my pocket.
I also have a Seecamp 32. They are beautiful little guns and if mine was a .380 I'd probably feel more confident with it. But since I bought the LCP my Seecamp is seeing less frequent carry. The Seecamp is no doubt the higher quality of the two (LCP vs Seecamp) but I've never felt very confident in the .32 ACP.
