Pocket carry cause slight pain?

Hey guys.

I've just started carrying a couple weeks ago- 442 in my right front pocket. I wear a little bit loose pants to accomodate and the gun moves with every stride I make, which is a lot. I feel (sometimes) a pain in my right buttock. Now I really do walk alot in my job and have experienced pains in my knees and hips before- several times a week avg.

Just wondering if the moving gun might make issues a little worse for my 49 year old legs.

yes. I have a $10 Blackhawk from Walmart. It's almost perfect. I wear hiking pants a great deal which allows more leg room and more pocket movement. I'm getting used to it. My question is mostly with concern that a moving weight in my pocket possibly having a negative effect.

I don't think having a pound in your front pocket swinging to and from would cause hip pain but I could be wrong. I think it would be more likely to cause chafing. Also, you might be subconsciously compensating for the swinging movement and thereby adjusting your stride.

Put it in your back pocket (with the holster).

The gun+ammo weights under 17oz

Do you have some huge wallet about to explode with papers? like George from seinfeld? lol

I cannot see how a little gun can cause pain. Now if it was a Sp 101/ or a heavy gun over 20oz then maybe yes.

I really do walk alot in my job and have experienced pains in my knees and hips before- several times a week avg.

It was already before? just more now with the gun you notice?

Although your pain is in your buttock, it probably originates in your back and is probably related to your method of carry.
I suggest you try other methods and places of carry.

Anything's possible ... I'm 65, been pocket carrying a PM9 for years, got a few aches and pains but nothing I'd blame on the gun ...

I bet I know what is happening. If you had one of those body-posture experts film you walking without your weapon and then film you again with it (doing it without you knowing to eliminate any self-consious bias) I bet they would find that you are subconsiously altering your gait and stance. That is throwing your joints out of alignment.

When I walk around in the woods wearing my snake boots, I get the kind of pain you are describing. The boots are changing my natural gait.

I think that I am subconsciously changing the way I walk a bit.

And yes, I did have a big, fat wallet and it was full of green. And then govt shot me in the butt and deflated it. Now I walk funny too. Where do I sign up for my check? And I want free ammo for life :D

My opinion...

I pocket carry in the right front pocket and have never felt any discomfort that I would chalk uo to the gun. Often I carry a Sig P238, at other times I carry an AMT DAO Backup in .45acp. Once to see how it would work I carried a Judge Ultra Lite for a week. Anything is possible and I would never say that my experience covers every person or situation.

If the gun is moving alot when you are moving you may consider trying another holster. As for the pain, that could be anything but I doubt its the gun.

The only pain i could see happening is if you sit on the gun alot being in your back pocket.....I actually got nerve damage in my leg from my overstuffed wallet at 30yrs old.....it took 2 months to get my leg straightened out and now i wear a thinner wallet on my left side

Switch pockets

jproaster,

Take all the contents of the pockets on you left side and put them in the pockets on your right side, and vice-versa. If the pain moves to the other buttock, I think that would be a clue.

If the pain doesn't move, but changes, that would be another clue. If it does not change at all, it might be time to see a physician.

You could also try having all pockets empty for a while.

Good luck.

I'm 51 and I complained about generally the same thing a few months ago on this or some other gun forum after struggling with my SP101. I made the switch to a pocket carry LCP, but pain continued.

It turns out that I have a severely compressed disc in my spine at, L4 (I think:confused:). Just a few ounces on one side or the other can give my a lot of pain. After receiving a lumbar injection, the pain has subsided some, but I'm probably stuck with the LCP.

As previously suggested, switch sides for a few hours and see how you feel. You may want to go see your doctor.
