PMC Ammo

I took some of this stuff to the range tonight, 9mm 115 grain FMJ, and ran it through my P99. I had five fail to feeds, three stovepipes and one case of the slide not locking back. I'd only put 100 rounds through it before tonight and those were a different brand, Geco or something like that, 124 grain and I had no problems. Is it the ammo, the gun being broken in or should I be worried?

I've never used PMC with that pistol but I have fired thousands of rounds of PMC in .40s&w and .45ACP and have never had any problems with it. YMMV

my 2 favorite brands of ammo that i pump through my 9mm are sellier & bellot and pmc both in 115 grain. i haven't had a problem w/ either one. the only ammo i would recommend to steer clear from is wolf and winchester white box ammo. you may want to check to make sure that your magazine springs and your recoil spring are ok. that is one of the most common and inexpensive fixes. other things to examine are the feed ramp and the extractor. i'd have a reputable gun shop/range clerk take a look at it and see if he has any ideas. hope this helps.

Same here. I've shot hundreds of .40 PMC without fail. I know one thing, the Winclean 180 gr BEB doesnt group worth a hoot outta my .40. PMC and American eagle shoots fine though.

Between my Sig P239 and my Glock 19 I've probably shot up about 2,000-2,500 rounds of PMC 9mm, and almost all of it has been the 115-gr. variety. Never had anything resembling the problems you mentioned.

Outside chance that you pulled from a bad lot, I guess.

I am actually partial to PMC ammo. Very reliable, compared to any other ammo I've shot.

Might be the quality Korean packaging and handling techniques, eh FlyinGN? ;)

Does all PMC ammo come from Korea?

I have used it in the past for my .30-06 and 5.56mm, with no problems. Relatively clean shooting and consistent.

I also shot up a couple boxes of .45ACP recetnly (couldn't get to the reloading press) and it worked just fine. I had heard somewhere that the .45 was South African. Can anyone confirm that?

Does all PMC ammo come from Korea?

No, some is US made, primarily the Starfire and X-Bullet lines.
PMC = Pan Metal Corporation

I had heard somewhere that the .45 was South African.

Are you sure it wasn't PMP ammo.
PMP = Pretoria Metal Pressings (South Africa)

I don't like the PMC 115 FMJ 9mmP for range use because there is too much muzzle flash. I prefer MagTech for "bargain basement" rounds. Never tried S&B because it sells out before I get to buy any.

I've used many thousands of PMC 115 FMJ without any problems.

A little history - PMC started life as Patton Morgan Corporation hence the PMC. They adopted the slogan Precision Made Cartridges. They later changed their name to Pan Metal Corporation. I wonder what other uses of "PMC" they can come up with in the future.

As for some of their ammo coming from Korea, I see no problem with that. Some of the finest precision instruments and heavy industry equipment comes from Korea. They have a hard working work force with lots of ingenuity and integrity.

Thairlar, i haven't had any problems with the 115gr pmc and my p99. hope that you get better results from the next batch. good luck and happy holidays to you and your's.

I have personally used 9mm PMC with no problems, I have seen many, many posts here and elsewhere advising extreme caution with the .40 S&W loads, as with Remington UMC.

.40 needs higher than average manufacturing standards it seems, even Federal screwed up with early batches of 40.

I have a german Walther P-38 that chokes on ANY 115 grain cartridge. But, it works beautifully with the 124 grainers. I think it is the slightly longer overall length.

Before I got into reloading almost all the ammo I used was PMC or
sellier & bellot, Both functioned flawlessly in my 380's, 9MM's and 38Spl. No the best ammo but cheap.

I have heard of similar problems with PMC 9mm. It is on the weak side, and apparently some pistols have trouble cycling it.

FWIW though, I fired about 800 rounds of it through a Glock 17 and HK USP without any trouble.

A little history is in order. At one time PMC ball ammo was loaded a little on the hot side, much like some IMI ammo. Both supplied the military of their respective countrys army, remember in certain parts of the world they can do very harsh things to people who supply sub-standard parts to the military. Time goes by and PMC takes a lesson in liability from ww white box and starts boxing their ball ammo sent to the U.S. as target or range ammo. I don't know if they are loading as hot as they use to because it does not seem so and I have been using it as one of my brands for over 25yrs. That said, I have never had any functiong problems in that ammo over the last twenty five years that was not spring related.:)
