Please recommend 45 Colt ammo for handguns?

The CorBon DPX has proven itself to be a very reliable expander in a number of calibers. You have seen how it works in a 140 grain .40, now imagine it in a 225 gr .45LC at 1200 fps, 720 lb/ft. It is what I carry in my 4" S&W M25.

I also carry DPX in my .45acps, and have it loaded in my LCP (although my faith in the .380 is marginal, so I only carry it once or twice per year).

I also have DPX in 9mm, and if I still carried a 9mm it would be in there, once I had put enpugh rounds through it to verify reliable function.

If I ever find DPX in .41 Mag, that will replace my current load....likewise 10mm.

My .45 Colt is always loaded with a handloaded LSWC and although it is not one of my SD weapons, I am confident that it would do a good job on a human. I get 0 expansion

Hey if it works for you thats your call but I dont think theres hardly a police deparment in the country that hasnt switched to hollowpoints because it tends (in general) to not overpenetrate and leaves a wider wound channel.

But like I say, if it works for you... enjoy! :)

It would be hard to find a .45 Colt round that's *not* good for self-defense. It's that good a cartridge. Even if it doesn't expand at all, it's already a full .45"

+1 absolutely a fantastic round.

I've got nearly two whole boxes of these left. Just shot one round thru a Judge. Trying to find someone that I don't like enough to shoot one loading of five rounds...

Are either of those loads standard pressure, and/or o.k.'ed by Cor Bon or Buffalo Bore to shoot in a Judge or a M25?

Those sound a lot more like "Ruger/Freedom Arms/Contender only" type loads than anything appropriate for a D/A S&W or Judge.

It is subjective to a point. Yes, certainly a 45 round has more surface area then most rounds and is going to leave a larger hole based off diameter.

Interpreting the circumstances where you might need to use the round is subjective; the stopping power of the cartridge under any specific conditions are entirely objective and measurable (even if some of those measurable data are rarely obtained). There's a wide range of broadly accepted (though not universal) criteria. The results are certainly subject to different interpretations but that's not subjectivity, that's both legitimate scientific debate and differing conclusions about unknown factors (like shooter's accuracy in a stressful situation and the likelihood of collateral damage due to full penetration) which is not about the round itself. There is a lot of debate on forums like this about this topic, but not mostly by well informed experts trying to reach objective conclusions.

I have a box of the same and have put quite a few rounds through my 460 S&W Mag! They pack a wallop! I've not put them though my S&W Mountain Gun, and not sure I will.

Bullet tumbling

QUESTION:
I have read the 45 lc bullets tend to "tumble" out of snubbies...
Anyone have any valuable experience on this?

I had a 3 1/4" barreled gun for many years in .45 Colt. No rounds tumbled out of it that I can recall. It was a decent shooter.

I cannot think of a reason that a shorter barrel in a .45 Colt would cause bullets to tumble. Would a .45 Colt round tumble but a .45acp not? It is the case in any gun that some load or the other might tumble. But the only way that a gun would cause all bullets to tumble would be if something was wrong with it.

On the Buffalo Bore site look at Standard Pressure Heavy 45 Colt. Those are for ALL modern 45 colt guns. Their other category "+P" is for stronger Ruger guns. Use the standard pressure heavy for the Judge, not the +P. Read their technical notes for those loads. It explains it.
