Please confirm my 1st batch of handloads are "ok"

Nathan,

Do you ask me?

I did the plunk test with my pistols Barrel. It sits with a "plunk" case mout-headspacing chamber at OAL 1.085". Any longer and something is sticking or does not go all the way in.

However with that OAL of 1.085" the pistol does not load reliable. Allways ftf. The slide does not go all the way back.

So to get a sweet Point my OAL is 1.051" (4.0 grain powder) which allows me for 1037 fps vs the 972 fps with the OAL of 1.040" (although with 3.5 grain powder. I did not risk to fill that OAL with 4 grain since it is most likely an compressed load).

most certainly he means the primer can push out a bullet into the Barrel and there it gets stuck.

If you dont realise it and shoot another round the misshappening will happen.

Exactly right.

There is a video on Youtube where a guy pulls the trigger on an AR and gets "click". He then attempts to chamber and fire several rounds before finally driving the extra bullet far enough into the barrel that a round will fire behind it. Parts and expletives fly.

Sometimes it doesn't take so much effort to get a round to go off behind a lodged bullet. Seems to be a fairly common mistake. That's why many of us:

a) Charge all cases in a loading block then closely examine and compare the charges before seating bullets.

b) Examine the chamber and bore anytime a gun doesn't seem to fire or sound normal.

This from Hornady manual #8: 9mm
115gr HP-XTP
C.O.L.: 1.075"
Max case length: 0.754"
Case length trim: 0.749"
Power Pistol powder charges Min: 4.8 Max: 6.7

Hope this helps. I know other manual's are different, but, OP is using a Hornady bullet.

a) and b) are Standard procedures for any responsible reloader and shooter.

I would never fire a round if I hear something strange likely to a "squib". If powder gets oily then the likelyhood of a squib is high. You hear and feel it.

Rifletom,
How much velocity you get from that Minimum load?

'Guy,
4.8gr Power Pistol is 1,000mv with that bullet. According to Hornady book.
Seems a bit high for that charge, but, it's their ballistics.

So
115 grain bullet
Power Pistol 4.8 grain
OAL 1.075“
Muzzle Velocity is 1000 fps.

Is that rigth?

That gives a meager 255 ft-lbs of energy. A nice 38 spl in a semi auto 9mm. A very weak 9mm indeed.
