You're missing an example of the original .380 - a Type II Colt Model M 1908 Pocket Hammerless. This one is from early 1910. The pic doesn't show it well but the original blue finish is Colt's high polish that is almost like a mirror. Note the fire blued trigger, safety lever, grip screw, barrel plug pin and mag release -

And here's a Type III, from 1922 -

I like .380s - also have a Kahr P380 and Ruger LCP for carry and a NIB Walther/Interarms PPK/S from 1999.

That Colt 1908 is gorgeous!

My poor cellphone pic - Top: Colt Government, Kahr CT380
Bottom: 1920s vintage Reminton M51, Ruger LCP

I love those 1908's!

It's also nice to see another Colt Government. :)

I have a 1903, and a 1908 is definitely on my wishlist.

I ended up with my satin nickel CZ 83 after looking for a Browning BDA 380 (no longer made), then a Beretta 84 FS Cheetah (none to be found by my local gunshop). I settled for the CZ 83, but I very much like it. From what I understand the sights are much better than those on the Browning, the frame-mounted safety is more ergonomic than the slide-mounted safety on the Browning, and the price was a fraction of that I'd have paid for a new Beretta.

This isn't a photo of mine, but mine looks exactly the same except mine wears CZ 75/85 rubber magazine base pads, which give me a full and comfortable four-finger grip on the gun:

It is my favorite carry gun. I typically carry it, quite comfortably, OWB in a UBG Regulator.

I like the pistol so much I obtained another CZ 83, which is chambered in .32 Auto, and a milsurp CZ 82, which is essentially the same gun chambered in 9 Makarov.

Love that CZ83! My FiL has one. It is accurate, reliable, soft-shooting, and cost $265 in barely used condition. I sure wish I had one in 32acp. That would be a super-fun plinker! :)

I have a Beretta 84, and the CZ83 is every bit as good.

In the aesthetic battle of the nickel-plated, double-stacked, compact .380s, I think the Browning BDA 380 comes out on top:

The Beretta 84 FS comes in second (although I could be persuaded to put it in first place):

The CZ 83 places third, but it wins by far on price and is definitely a step above Commie utilitarian.

A big flaw of both the Browning and Beretta is that changing the front sight requires major surgery.

Your FIL got a great deal on his nickel 83. I saw a used nickel 83 chambered in 9 Makarov a couple of years ago. Not many 9 Mak 83s were imported. I had to work to restrain myself from buying it. I had to tell myself over and over that I already had an 82.

Oh man . . . your wives and significant others are really going to be upset with all you guys for looking at "gun -CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED-"!:D

Good thread and some very nice photos . . . I have only had one .380 and got rid of it . . . wish I hadn't. I really need to find one sometime . . . have all the molds, dies, brass, etc. so I've taken the first important step . . . get all those things to re-load THEN buy the pistol! :)

^Kinda. Beretta made the BDA 380 for Browning, and it can be viewed as a modified FS Cheetah. For example, the BDA doesn't have the open top slide; it has a traditional ejection port on the right. And, its safety is mounted on the slide instead of the frame.

I have no affiliation with them whatsoever.

CDIsales on GunBroker is where my FiL got his CZ83. They often have the Beretta 84 and the Browning version thereof. They seem to be surplus LE turn-ins from overseas, or something similar. My family has been pleased with the firearms we've gotten through them.

Only 380 I own, natural pointer and, very accurate.

Vet66, that P232 is one of the best looking semi-auto pistols ever. It's like they took that clunky Walther PPK, and made it actually look good

Thanks!

Jerry,

How is that Seecamp in .380 to shoot?

I have the .23 and .32 models, been spooked by the .380 because the lowly .25 is no fun to pull the trigger on.

Great guns, Seecamps, but not really your optimal range toy.
