Pit Bulls and guns

My gun doesn't bark.
My gun doesn't lunge against a fence seperating my yard from another yard.
My gun doesn't have the desire to tresspass onto someone else's property to poop, pee or do harm.

Your gun also won't wake you up in the middle of the night when someone is playing sneak and peek in your back yard.

Your gun also won't react on it's own while you're waking up and looking for it.

Your gun also runs a MUCH lower chance of preventing the incident completely just by the mere presence of it.

Pitbulls are known for there abilty to absorb lots of damage and keep on going. But, the great thing is "most" pitbulls (even "fighting" dogs) is the fact they are "usually" more bark than bite.

Pitbulls usually have to be "specifically" trained for "human" aggression. This is why they make GREAT companion animals; and NOT so good LEO dogs. (Even though the MOST decorated military and LE dogs in history were "both" resecued pitbulls.)

That being said:
As someone who has been working with and rescuing pitbulls for over two decades, and someone who owns two pits that can disarm a BG fairly easy, I would not want to try and stop a rogue pitbull with anything less than a 12ga or 308.

OK, I've struggled with this, and discussed it with my fellow mods.

Unfortunately, this subject is simply off topic for TFL.

It's in General Handguns, and this topic has only very marginally discussed handguns, certainly not to the point where it would rise to the level of a handgun subject.

It also wouldn't be appropriate in General Discussion, which mandates that all topics of discussion must be firearms related.

Finally, it's not really a question of law or civil rights, either.

So, unfortunately, the subject isn't a topic for TFL.

But, I do wish to thank everyone for the many insightful comments and polite discussion on what can truly be a contentious topic.
