Pistol safety

Most of the period percussion Colts I have seen had the "safety pins" worn and corroded beyond usefulness. A lot of reproducers don't bother to install them. The Rigdon-Ainsley CSA Colt copy has 12 bolt notches so the gun is locked up between chambers more positively.
The Remington (and Ruger) notch looks more secure.

Like Bamaranger, I see and read of a lot of people who do not trust their machinery and carry with an empty chamber. With a revolver, all this costs you is a shot; you just have to deal with the problem with five shots. Or four if you are hinky about a Chief's Special. Chamber empty in an auto requires more time and hands to get ready to make smoke.
