Pistol caliber carbine.

This is something that has been getting to me for a while...

I'd like a highly reliable and good quality, 20 - 30 round detachable magazine, 9mm or .22 wmr carbine.

Kel-Tech sub2000.... (not reliable unless using higher pressure ammo in my experience, cheap plastic sights that are no good in the long run, hard to mount quality optics.

Beretta CX4 Storm ....... Seams like any magazines over 17 rounds are HIGH priced and not always factory, although despite the looks, this may be the best option.

H&K.... Expensive!!!!!

Ruger PC9.... Less capacity, and no longer in production.

Kel-Tech again with a .22 wmr "RM-30 carbine".... I hear there are issues with reliability and quality.

There are always AR style 9mm's but I really dont care for that idea.

Is it just me, or am I the only one begging for a high quality, reliable, affordable, good capacity pistol caliber carbine???
Or do I really need to get myself an M1 Carbine and swallow the cost of ammo...? :)

I run 147gr with 4.1gr of unique for a subsonic load out of my sub2k and it runs flawless. Don't know why you're having problems. Could be mags.

Don't forget the Marlin Camp Carbine, the 9mm once had a 20 round magazine and it also feed the S&W 59 15 round magazine's.

The .45 could also take anything that a 1911a1 could handle IIRC.

Never heard a bad thing about them TBH.

The Marlin Camp Carbine were known for not having strong enough springs and were prone to having the buffer fracture.

It's easy to fix though...

Thanks for that C0untZer0, didn't know that. I was looking one for the wife, she detests my SKS.

I'll agree with the second part, but there are plenty of 20- and 30-round mags available for these.

I will never sell my PC9 for any reason; it's a rugged, reliable rifle that is really quite ideal for home defense. Much more robust than the Marlin Camps. Wish they had made a .45acp version.

Had a chat with the designer of the PC9 on the Ruger forum awhile back, learned some interesting stuff about it.

Thanks for the links, Countzero.

Too bad all those carbines are so butt-ugly ;)
Another reason I love the PC9, she's pretty.

I have been a long time fan of the pistol caliber carbines, and I have owned a few.
The Marlin camp 9 I had was not reliable.
The HiPoint 9 was ultra reliable and accurate...hampered by being a single stack mag.
The UZI was the best I had...accurate, reliable, and tons of cheap low cost surplus mags.
Finally, I sold the UZI to finance a CMP USGI M1 carbine...and I won't go back.
The ammo is not that expensive...$20 for 50rds. The weapon itself is lighter than any of the 9mm carbines while being a lot more powerful...yet still useable for HD. Best of all, the M1 carbine just handles great...points like a finger, feels lively in hand....truly a great little weapon.

kinda out of the box but one of the glock carbine kits might be something that fits your bill and 33rd 9mm glock mags run about $35. just a thought

I disagree about the looks of the Marlin. I think they are a prettier gun than the Ruger, but I guess pretty is as pretty does.

I still kick myself for not picking up a PC9.

I wanted a Calico for the longest time, but if you go on Calico's own forums you read about people who have tons of problems with them.

I have heard so many stories where people basically have to re-wind their mag every 6 to 7 rounds.

M1 Carbine ftw

I decided against getting a pistol calibre carbine. Ammo sharing with an actual pistol is just not that compelling a factor for me.

My reloading manuals diss the .30 carbine cartridge, but it's fine for the distances I shoot. No, it's not a 600m battle rifle. It's half the weight and size of one, and nobody I know would care to stand in front of one.

Takes a Glock pistol so is quite reliable. I think you guys in the states need to pay a $200 fee though for being a SBR?

In my original post, I forgot to mention the Uzi. That was actually one of the ones I've been thinking about.

Do any of you know where the best place to get an Uzi is... in terms of quality and reliability I mean. Any special mags I should get, or will any old mag do?

The Kel Tech Sub 2000 9mm I've been shooting has an issue with ejecting the brass from factory ammo loaded with lighter 115 gr bullets, it works better with 124, but is still not reliable. I have not tried anything else, but I think it would do fine with a hotter or heavier load. Although the sights are already junk, and the Quad rails seam to be unavailable at this time (otherwise I'd just mount a red dot and buy some hotter ammo)

In the mean time... I'm thinking Uzi???

Or an M1 carbine???

or a CX4 storm???

I still like the idea of a .22 wmr Ruger 10/22, but there is no way I would pay an extra $500-$700 for an extra 4-6, 25 round magazines, on top of what might be close to a $400 rifle...
