i want a carbine that takes beretta 92 mags and a beretta 92. i'll be using factory 15 and 20 rounders. both guns are available in this configuration. the question is: is the beretta $250-$350 better than the keltec? i have shot the beretta in .40 cal. and it was nice. the ability to add a scope/reddot is nice. the foldability of the keltec is also nice as i'm a back pack carrier. you can get a foldaway scope mount that supposedly returns to zero. the weapon will be for fun and home defense. it will also be a large part of a bug out bag. (carbine and pistol, matching ammo [low recoil 9mm that the wife can shoot well] and compatible mags)

I can’t comment on the Keltec since I have never shot one but I can on the Beretta storm. I have one that uses the Beretta 8000 cougar magazines.
I dan highly recommend the gun. It will hold good groups at 100 yards.
I would add a reddot like an Aimpoint which is what I have on mine. When you order the gun make sure you order the upper rail that mounts on the gun.

money is the key. i know the beretta is better quality. but if theres nothing wrong with the keltec.... the folding option vs the scope mount on the other. ???????

Neither

Buy a used Marlin Camp Carbine.

I looked at the CX4 today. My right hand didn't fit all the way in the space behind the pistol grip, so I ended up with an odd twist to my right hand. The sights are horrible, blocking out almost everything in front of you. They should drop the sights altogether and just make the top a flat piccatiny rail.

My research puts the Sub2k at $340 out the door, and the Beretta over 750-800.

Buy 2 sub 2ks and ammo is my vote.

Have a G17 Sub2k and love it. The lightness and fold-ability make it just a no brainer.

countzero, does the marlin take magazines from a beretta 92fs? i've shot the CX4 and my hands fit well. i already have a nice reddot (actually "T" dot) for whatever i buy. the scope mount for the sub2k is "iffy" though, and expensive. can you mount a scope to the side of a quad rail? thanks everybody, keep the votes coming. i m gonna buy what ya'll tell me to !!!

Glock is supposedly coming out with a carbine... might want to wait.

I like carbines, I always wanted the Marlin. But it never really made sense to me. For the same money I could get a shotgun or a serviceable 308 rifle both of which would be more effective than a 9mm through a long barrel, IMO.

If your hand fits the CX4 and you are going to be ignoring the bad iron sights anyway then the CX4 seems like a better carbine for you than the Kel-Tec

you aren't reading my posts. i want something that takes beretta 92fs magazines. i have a reddot that i can put on the cx4. i already have a .308 and a hicap 12 gauge.

I also thought the CX4 had an odd LOP (for me), I know there are some spacers that can come off the butt, but I think I would actually need to extend the LOP to make it feel better for me.

For someone with shorter arms that LOP is probably good.

If you are concerned about commonality of ammo, have you considered a 9mm revolver for a quaternary backup?

I have a KelTec (S&W mags) I like how it folds up into a small compact package and uses pistol magazines. I Have never had a jam or missfire.
If size matters go with KelTec

I tried both at a local gun store and the Beretta just "felt better". The real deciding thing for me was the Beretta's ability to eject right and left. Since I shoot left handed this was a major consideration.

a 9mm carbine might be the only longarm i can get my lefty wife to shoot. the mini14 is too loud and kicks too hard for her. good to know about the cx4 being ambidexterous

CX4 .45

I just bought and fired my new CX4 today.
In a word....Love.
Better control than a pistol (unless your married to it and fire 900,000 rounds a week) More power than the pistol in the same caliber. Better all around.
Low mag cap. but its .45, dont need to double tap anyway.
Me likey...Want to put a low power scope on (without batterys).
Just my 2 cents....did I mention it a .45 ACP ?? Sledge hammer anyone?
I can't shoot 300 yards and I don't need a rifle that shoots that far. Up close and wack 'em.........It suits me from the ground up.

JMHO.

A thought...

I had a HiPoint 9mm for years. After selling it and picking up an AR, I have to say recoil is about the same. If she doesn't like the Mini 14's recoil, she won't like the carbine's either.

Might I humbly suggest you get a cheap reloading setup and make your own 223's, and download the charge enough that her fears will be mitigated by a milder cartridge? Sure would be a lot cheaper than buying that CX4, or even the KelTec.

thanks guys. the mini kicks more than my dads AR, and is a lot louder. the 9mm carbines are quiet. the CX4 is what i want at this point to put my nice "T" dot on. economics might make me get the keltec first, but sooner or later ill own both. cheaper to shoot, easier to shoot, and smaller packages. anybody need a bitchin' mini 14?

I've got the G19 + S2K, 15/33 rnd mags.

Love the combo, 100 reliable on both, and S2K is a lot more accurate. I live next door to pistol-unfriendly states in the Northeast, REALLY like having a legal "long gun" that fits in a pistol case.
