Well gang I finally got my GI 1911 that I've always been wanting! Here it is!

This is a Springfield Armory GI model that I put some USGI brown plastic grips on. It is a great shooter so far and has been very reliable with the old trust 230 grain FMJ service load. It is a very faithful copy of the U.S. issued M1911A1 pistol, about as close as you can get without getting an original. Mine does have the civilian style "teardrop" shaped safety but I plan to soon change it to a small shelf USGI safety.

The accouterments are meant to represent a Gulf War era issued rig for the most part. Everything, including the web belt (dated 1978), M1916 holster (Nordac Mfg. 1980s), magazine pouch (Vietnam era), magazines (Check-Mate early 1990s contracts mags from the CMP), and lanyard (contract for M9/M1911A1 1990s) are 100% authentic USGI issued items, not reproductions. The ammo pictured is Winchester "Service Grade" .45 ACP and it is manufactured to Mil-Spec.

I need a few finishing touches such as a new safety to make it totally "correct" (minus the markings) but it sure scratches the itch for now! Long live the M1911A1! :D

Take care, gang!

Great pistol, I have the same one and it likes everything I've fed it. How's your trigger? I was surprised how smooth mine was.

Me too! It's very smooth and pretty light. I was quite pleased with it! This is a second hand gun with a little wear, but that only makes it look like a USGI gun even more! :)

Congrats on that "G.I." clone! Let us know how it shoots.

The original U.S.G.I Colts issued in both World Wars never jammed and were deadly accurate at typical combat distances.

Very nice! The true 1911 experience without the bells and whistles :-) I seriously started looking at my handgun collection to see what I could part with to make room for a GI 1911 :-) These forums are terrible for your wallet :-)

I am super fond of the old GI pistols. Unfortunately, the prices that originals command today put them out of the reach of most people. Nice to see you were able to get the look without having to spend the bucks.

I have a few originals from WWII and a few from WWI

Top to bottom: 1942 Colt, 1944 Remington-Rand, 1943 Ithaca. Holsters are: top, 1916 Sears and bottom, 1942 Boyt

1914 Springfield. A little rough, but it did spend god knows how many years on the bottom of a lake.

Good Morning Model12Win,

Your gun is an authentic American icon. It has to be the world's most recognized handgun.

This thread has some pictures that make me jealous! Now do I want a Springfield GI as well, or should I get a colt series 70? You're making this hard!
