Pink Pistols

Good for them! Great news!

I recall an article in Salon Magazine not too long ago about gays who believed in the RKBA. This is an excellent, and logical development. It has never made any sense to me that groups who are set upon by society are anti-self defense.

I'll say this about this group..."MORE POWER TO 'EM. I echo the sentiments of Libertarian. We need to shuck the aura of uneducated redneck neo-nazi, militia freaks. It's a proven fact that most gun owners are more educated and in a better tax bracket than their non-owning conterparts. Being gay or lesbian is nothing where RKBA is concerned. Like the Jews in WWII, the gays were interned and tortured as well, so they have a righteous claim, as does any law-abiding citizen. The broader the spectrum of responsible gun owners and hunters, the harder it is for the blighters to revoke. I would walk down a street with a gay man or woman in protest of the govt. trying to take my 2nd away day. I would even shoot recreationally with someone like this. The more people that are on our side, the better.
My cat is even pro-gun...well, she sure like the way Break-free smells, anyway..... :)

I heard an interview with the founder who stated that the membership was a whopping total of 35. I hope to see them grow. Fighting for freedom and individual rights is fine by me no matter who you are.

Cool. It's about time.
They meet at the Manchester Firing Line
on the second Saturday of every month at 3:00 pm.

I happen to be a member of that range, if I see them I'll say hi.

I'd rather have bigots think I'm gay than
have gays think I'm a bigot.

Wow. It's nice to see the Pink Pistols get talked about.

Yes, we're real. I'm the person who founded the group in Boston, MA.

To answer some of the questions and comments in this thread:

Ben: "Another Pro-Second organization... who am I to complain? Shooters are
shooters no matter which lane they shoot in NRA and other pro-second
organizations can certainly use their support."

I hope that everyone is as open minded as you. We've gotten some static
from both sides of the issue, including some ranges where we've been
brushed off an politely told not to inquire about using the
facilities. Fortunately, that's the exception. And we're looking into
other facilities as the moment, because the current location doesn't want
to deal with the presence of media. I don't blame 'em for that. We've
been lucky in regards to most of the coverage we've received.

USP45usp: "I could use some help on this project through. Not all of the
"alternative" lifestyle people believe in the concept of Freedom. I guess
it's out in the open, so all I can ask if for help in setting up a Charter
for this area."

We'll be glad to help out. Email me (dkrick@pinkpistols.org) and we'll do
what we can to help you set up a local chapter. It's easier than it
sounds. Also, I recommend getting yourself on our mailing list
(pinkpistols-subscribe@egroups.com) for more contact with the organization.

Tamara: "Of course the site had great artwork. If it weren't for an
exceptionally talented gay friend, my website would be plain text, rather
than one that gets complimented by art directors."

(Laughing) Thanks for the compliment. My artistic ability is lacking, and
if it wasn't for another one of our members, we wouldn't have the logo...

Tamara: "Anyway, I'm sure their offices (if any) are fabulously decorated,
too!"

Sorry to disappoint you, but we don't have any offices. Everything we do
is self-funded, with the exception of some basics (like the cost for the
domain registration.) I think our total expenditures have been about $100
so far...

Karanas: "I mentioned the Pink Pistols to my daughter, who has several gay
friends at school. She told them about it and reported that they seemed to
be genuinely interested and would check out the site. Who knows where this
could go?"

Once again, have her contact me if she's interested in starting a local
group. (dkrick@pinkpistols.org) We have some information on the web-page
about forming local chapters. (We already have two, Boston and
Baltimore. Twin Cities, MN and a few others are still in the formation
process.)

As to where it will go, I have no idea. I'm a little surprised at how far
we've already gone. The idea started out as a bunch of my friends who
wanted to get together and go shooting, some of whom have had no experience
and were intimidated by the stereotype of the gun culture.

Jeff Thomas: "I recall an article in Salon Magazine not too long ago about
gays who believed in the RKBA."

That's where we got the name.

Jack Straw: "I heard an interview with the founder who stated that the
membership was a whopping total of 35."

For the moment. In one week we've already grown to about 45. I expect
we'll keep growing rapidly. We've already gotten commetns from people in
about 10 cities across the US of people wanting to start local
chapters. So, it looks like we'll start growing exponentially for a while.

And for a group that's only 3 months old, that's not bad.

TearsOfRage: "I happen to be a member of that range, if I see them I'll say
hi."

Stop by and say "Hi"! We usually shoot for a couple hours, and then go off
to a restraunt and get dinner and socialize for a while.

Gorthaur: "Well, dang, if they can get it together "back east," we ought to
be able to get a Silicon Valley, or maybe an SF Bay Area, chapter going."

Join the mailing list. (pinkpistols-request@egroups.com) I think that the
SF area is one of the places that people have spoken up about starting a
local group.

I'm for it.

I notice that the clientele at the local gunshop in my area represents a cross-section of America: any or all races, ages, genders, national origins, religions, levels of education, socioeconomic strata, etc., etc. All are people with a common interest, a dedication to the RKBA, and a willingness to think for themselves, not just to go along with what's politically correct. And they get along just fine. The word "diversity" gets kicked around a lot these days, but it certainly describes the community of informed gunowners.

In sum, I'm confident that members of the Pink Pistols would be as welcome at the local gunshop as any other firearms enthusiasts.
