The Star BM is probably the perfect pistol to try it out -- it's literally the reason I ordered one. The upside is high -- an all-steel pistol with a WWI-era finish you can conceal with your tuxedo. The downside is low, as there is zero collector interest in keeping things stock. Unless one is really playing the long game and hoping to sell to a museum some time in the 2070's.
BTW, it's interesting to compare the cost of a rust bluing job to hot bluing with varying amounts of polish, from the professionals. https://gunbluing.com/price-list/ Of course, I doubt they're using Express Blue #1 -- more likely sweat boxes and a process taking several days. Still, it's nice to be able to do something close to it yourself.
