Groove dia. and width can and does vary between different brands. Yes, there is a standard model but not everyone adheres to it. I have been loading and unloading moon clips since the 80s and some cases snap right in and some need a little more applied force. I use Ranch Products clips and Federal brass. I really never undersood some people's frustration with loading/unloading clips. I can load a full moon clip faster and easier than most people can load a semi auto pistol magazine. (with just my fingers) For de-mooning a tool is a big help and speeds the job up.

Go ahead and get tools to load and unload the moon clips. I can't load or unload them without the tools. You'll love it, much faster than speedloaders and keeps your brass together, makes large holes in the target.
