Picked up my Beretta M9 today

I love my 92FS. Enough that I've considered getting an M9 as well for the different rollmarks despite the fact that they're essentially identical.

It came with 2 mags would it be a good idea to get more?
If I don't have 5 mags for a gun I'm not happy. If it's one I plan to rely on for self-defense, one I plan to shoot a lot or use in competition, I want double that.

5 is probably enough, but living through the AWB and the magazine madness it inspired, pushed my minimum threshold up somewhat...
Check out Mecgar for mags. They make the factory mags for it I believe, but the Mecgar labeled mags are lots cheaper than the Beretta labeled ones.
I believe it is true that Beretta has contracted with MecGar for magazines for some of their guns in the past. The last time I checked on such things (a few years back), MDS (Meccanica Del Sarca), a Beretta subsidiary, was making the factory Beretta mags for the 92/96/M9 pistols.

You can find MDS mags on the market and they're usually a little cheaper than the Beretta marked mags. Some claim that the MDS mags aren't precisely the same as the Beretta marked mags, citing minor differences in the floorplates, etc. I've not really noticed a difference in the ones I have, but figured I'd put it out there, in the interest of full disclosure.

MecGar does make good magazines. Experience has convinced me that the price savings on aftermarket/non-OEM magazines isn't worth it in the long run. In spite of that I will still buy MecGar products.

Congrats, 92 is the best 9mm. Mec-Gar 18 rounders are excellent magazines, the plastic floorplates sometimes crack but new ones are dirt cheap. Older Mec-Gar 17 rounders had sheet metal floorplates. Beretta also makes/made competition 15 round mags with thick rubberized metal plates, these came with 92 Stock/Competition at least.

thanks to those who posted about the hammer spring-- the trigger is already great-- thi s makes it better? hard to believe-- will try it
