i picked 45ACP

the most power that i can effectively carry in a semi-auto and still shoot while not destroying my wallet

although, i have been shooting 9mm more lately...

Because it was a two part question and I shoot far more ammo target shooting and plinking than at the bad guys's I voted the 357 and that is because thats what the guns I shoot mostly are chambered for. When it comes down to it cartridge wise I shoot more 38spl's then anything, even the 22's. That said the 45ACP in a revolver most of the time is what I use for HD/SD followed by the 45 Colt. If I could not of had the 357 as a choice then my choice would have been the 45ACP. I really understand the 22 voters and could be very happy shooting the 22 for target and plinking but just couldnt put my life behind one.

.45 ACP, because it can be mild or powerful, revolver or semi-auto, or Thompson sub :D ,and isn't ear splitting like the .357 Mag.

Close runner up is .45 Colt for the same reasons, except trade the Tommy Gun option for lever gun. :D

FairWarning has some real good arguments, . . . Plus, . . .

IF, . . . I could only have one, . . . it would have to be the one that I know the most about, . . . am most comfortable shooting it, . . . the one that I like to shoot the most, . . . and would have to be one that I can expect to be able to find ammo for just about any place I go.

The old .45 ACP fills "my" requirements, . . . YMMV.

May God bless,
Dwight

I absolutly agree with Fairwarning's statement about the mild or powerful loads. This is the reason I was never interested much in the 40S&W. The 45ACP can be light and fast or slow and heavy. I have some Corbon 165gr. +P with 573 ft/lbs doing 1250ft/sec or you can use standard FMJ 230gr. at 850ft/sec with 360ft/lbs. It can fullfill many needs, and I would be comfortable carrying Ball ammo in my 45 if necessary. I cant say the same about many pistols rounds, and out of them the 45 is the one I would choose time and again. 45ACP is for me :D.

I love my .40's. I also have a few .357's and .45's along with a .44mag and a .454 i carry in Alaska. My .40 is my favorite for carry as it packs plenty of punch, is lighter than my .45 and holds 15rnds.

Tough Call

I chose 9mm. It was a tough call though between 9mm and 357mag. I love both. They are both very versatile 9mm guns usually have higher capacity while the 357 has more punch. Both can be loaded adequately for HD/SD. The only real reason I chose 9mm is due to the cost of range ammo. I can shoot the 9 for about 1/2 what the 357 cost. Ask me tomorrow, though and I might vote for the 357mag. Decided to edit my response to say 45acp is also a favorite. Depends how I feel at the time.

9mm is losing :(

Ugh, I just found out that the 9mm is False Protection.

I just wish I could discover what Survivalist Masters & The Army don't want me to know...

If only there were someone who would reveal to me what Survivalist Masters & The Army don't want me to know...

Again - If I could only have one... It would be 357 Mag. Because it fits the S&W M19 which is the handgun "If I could only have one..."

Thats how I picked my catridge too. If I could only have the one handgun what would it be, the 1911, so its 45ACP. Ahhh who am I kidding and I just love the chubby round :D.

9mm, powerful enough, controllable, high capacities, availability, affordable leading to more range and run and gun time to be proficient. When my brothers with the sub compact .45s are out of ammo I'll be sure to send in my supporting fire of 9mm to protect them from harm!;)
