I really wanted to vote for the .22lr but my favorite gun is my 3 inch barrel Smith & Wesson 629 but it's a beast with magnums, so I voted for the .44 special

I voted .45acp because I shoot it about 10x as much as any other cartridge.

I have enough .22LR that I will continue shooting it for some time to come.

I have enough components that I will be able to handload for a number of centerfire cartridges for a while yet.

9mm

9mm because

1) I can put it in a sub-compact like a DB-9, Rohrbaugh or PM9 and still have a major caliber pocket pistol. The 9mm is more effective than the 380 auto - and generally speaking, no one has figured out how to make a reliable and controlable semi-auto pocket pistol for a caliber larger than the 9mm.

2) I can put it in a full sized auto and have an effective SD/HD weapon system.

3) I can put them - especially +P or +P+ rounds in a carbine and have very good performance with the round.

44 Mag because it can also be used for big game. Load it down or use .44 Special and it could be a very good house gun.

I voted .45 ACP because that is what I shoot the best. Great self-defense round and in a pinch FMJ and +P can be employed for small to medium sized game. I know the same can be said for many of the rounds on the list, just note my first sentence.

I like 357 magnums. I don't have any other reason other than its what I learned to shoot with and feel most confident with.

mindset>skillset>toolset
With my current mindset and skill set I feel many (and more not listed) of those calibers more than adequate for all purpose use.

I went for the 38 because I like the moderate amount of recoil from a small to medium revolver. Enough to feel, but also not jarring on the hands.

.9mm for all the above stated reasons plus it's cheap and very readily available all over the world.

I have 4 Main Carry Weapons. Depending upon which side of town I’m in I may be found with the S&W 4043 in the glove box. Either the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .44 MAG , a Ruger SP 101 .357 Cal, or a SIG P-239 in 9mm as a main gun. Weather and how I’m dressed are also taken into consideration. The Ruger LCP .380 goes along as a BUG or sometimes flies solo.

+1 Slowhand, I have the SP101 in .357,the Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 magnum as well as the GP100 in .357 as well. I agree, why limit it to just one as long the govn't doesnt' rescind this right to carry.

I voted 9mm since it seems to be smack dab on the junction between cheap ammo and adequate stopping ability.
