Peter Jennings

To make a long story short Peter Jennings asked Gen. Powell is he thought the Republican party was "just using him" since in Jennings words " he was the most famous black man in America." This would insinuate that the Gen. was stupid enough to be used for political gain and not even realize it . I believe the Gen. showed great self control . In my opinion he should have kicked Jennings' butt all the way back to Canada .
Now the big question . Will Jennings ask Lieberman the same question ? Are the Dems just " using you because you are a Jew ?"

paratrooper,

You make a good point. I saw that interview with Jennings and Powell too. At first Jennings asked Powell "since you are the ONLY famous black man in America." Powell straightened him out on that, but he should have really ripped Jennings a new one for the whole line of questioning! The news media no longer even pretend that they are unbiased. They now show their liberal bias openly. I guess they are not worried about losing any more viewer share, content with pandering to the 40 percent of those who always vote Democratic.

What that mega millionaire Marxist Jennings was REALLY asking Powell, "Are you really just the Republicans token nigger?" What an insult!!

That raving a$$ hypocrite, Jennings, is lower than whale feces and that stuff is on the bottom of the ocean.

On the race issue though, I love how Ms. Rice in her speech said that her dad joined the Republican party back in the sixties cause the Democrats wouldn't register a black man. What a blow! I love it. That lady is great, I hope she goes far in politics. Give her 8-12 years and maybe even president. I'd vote for her.

Dangus; I agree on Condolezza Rice. She is sharp sharp sharp. And smart too!

You have to be there when it's all over. Otherwise you can't say "I told you so."

Better days to be,

I thought Jennings was a Limey?

Typical. God forbid any African-American might "betray the race" and become a Republican. Its a shallow form of racism and it would have been funny to see Jennings get slammed.

He should have mentioned that more Republicans voted for the 64 Civil Rights Act than Dems.

Reminds me of a story from the Virginia Gubernatorial race a few years ago. (Then) Lt. Gov. Don Beyer was the Democrat nominee. James Quash, a good friend of mine, was the GOP city committee chairman for the city of Portsmouth. Quash also happens to be a black man.

Anyway, there was a big Afro-centric festival here that year (and every year), so the local GOP decides to pony up the funds and set up a table, since there was a big, hard-fought election that year and it was deemed a good move to at least make a showing for Gilmore, Hager, and Earley.

Beyer was making his way through the crowd with Johnny Joannou, who was running for the House of Delegates that year. He knew Quash, and decided to introduce Beyer to him. When he did, Beyer remarked "You're a black man, and you're the Republican Party chairman for Portsmouth? How do you sleep at night?"

Quash didn't miss a beat.

"It's really very easy. I got off the plantation MANY years ago."

You could have knocked Beyer over with a feather.

This is the same thing, at a larger level. I, too, wait to see if Jennings will bring up Lieberman's ethnicity, but I'm not holding my breath. I recommend that none of you do, either.

I think Jennings is originally Canadian. He may be a U.S. citizen now.

Condeleeza Rice rocks! Let's start a Rice for President committee!

Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw? -- liberal extememists, to be sure, but at least they can apparently think on their feet.

Peter Jennings? -- can pass as an anchor if properly programmed, but otherwise a total blithering idiot/moron. You only had to witness the guy trying to ad lib when that jet went down off Long Island a few years ago. You would have sworn the guy was in the initial throws of Alzheimer's disease.

If the guy seems the least bit articulate on any given day, one thing is certain -- he's been carefully scripted by those he reports to.

One Man's Not So Humble Opinion.

I am amazed that you guys are actually watching these network news broadcasts. I don't know how you can stand it.

Joe is right. They wear their bias as a badge of honor now. I got so sick of it I finally couldn't stand it anymore and gave up network news broadcasts about 2 years ago. I would recommend it to everyone. The only way these clowns are ever going to leave is when enough people stop watching them.

At the very least, there should be a little 'D' or 'R' appearing after their names on the screen like they do for their guests. Then we could see the overwhelming bias.

Brady, welcome to TFL!

And, you know, I really like that idea of the 'D's and 'R's next to reporters' names. Obviously they'd never do it, but it would tweak their noses to mention that in a letter from time to time. Thanks.

Live and let live. Regards from AZ

I agree with Brady.

I got so sick of the whole ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN crowd that I not only get my news from the Internet and the Radio, but never even got my TV hooked up at my new domicile.

Paying near $40 a month to be fed trash and BS is foolish. I can get all that for free in any cow-pasture.

If I could have only 1 TV channel, it would be either the History Channel or Fox News. Since I can't pick and choose this way, I opted out of TV on the whole. And it feels oh-so good. I started playing classical music again, reading books and working out. I feel happier, smarter and fitter.

I knew I had to do something when I had my last barfing fit while watching Rivera Live.

Puke!

Anybody else remember the heroic Jennings interviewing a 14-year-old boy when Yugoslavia was coming undone? The interview was conducted on park bench in an area peppered by sniper fire. Jennings was the one wearing the flack jacket; the kid, nothing more than a shirt.

I don't think we would need any R's on network news .

Greetings,
I too joined the TV-less crowd a few years back. Sure, it's hard not being connected to the "real world" in such a mentally stimulating way, but I manage. The "negativity box" went down range along with my blood pressure, and everything that kept it pumped up. Life has improved 1000% and it just keeps getting better. TV is a disease....a mentally degrading addition that eats at our very soul. I highly recommend "pulling the plug" to anybody who's had enough. It can be very hard for a lot of people understandably, but I can't think of a behavioral change that has reaped more benefit to my spirit. I haven't seen Bill Clinton's greasy red lying face for years. That's reason enough for me in itself, although I could list at least a million others. And you know, I still don't have enough time to do all the things I love to do. What the hell was I thinking before...?!?
My $.02 from the free from TV surface of the moon,
SM

Jeff Thomas - I really think you're on to something! We'd have something like:

Dan Rather (D - CBS)
Tom Brokaw (D - NBC)
Cokie Roberts (S - ABC)
Peter Jennings (C - ABC)

I love it!

Its been long known that Jennings is a robot..... Back during the OJ fiasco, a phoney phone caller (and Howard Stern fan) somehow got through the ABC defenses and was describing the scene around OJs house to Jennings, speaking in a thick cajun accent. After a while he made a reference to the stern show (babbabooey) and Jennings was totally fooled. Al Michaels had to chime in and tell Jennings that the speaker was talking in "a secret code" and was obviously a fake.... A classic bit on how robotic Jennings is.....
