Personal defense

My list of calibers that I use are:

.22 LR (just for a plinker, not HD)
9mm
40 S&W
.223/5.56
12 gauge
7.62x54r (although not as practical obviously, for a "last line of defense")

I think the BEST for home defense would be a handgun in something like 9mm/40 S&W/.45 ACP. An AR pistol also works but whatever you feel comfortable with works.

9mm 115g Critical Defense. No particular reason, except that is what was available when I went in to the LGS looking for carry ammo.

S&W 500: 350 gr Hornady XTP
S&W 460: 200 gr Hornady XTP

HAHAHAHA

9 mm Critical Defense 115 gr
45 ACP Critical Defense 230' gr
357 Mag 125 gr Crirical Defense

158 gr LSWC out of my 642. It worked in 357 version in my Service Revolver (Model 28) for 43 years, 20 of that in LE, I don't see why it wont work now.

1st choice is Federal HST 147gr (standard pressure)

I picked up a pocket pistol, Taurus 709.. I might run 124gr HST's in that,
Have to see how it handles 124 & 147gr.

Several good 9mm SD rounds out there these days, But I really like what I've seen from HST's in the gel tests.

My SIG P938, Federal HST 124 grain +P.

My S&W 642-1, which is converted to 9mm, Hornady XTP 147 grain. It is an Airweight, so I rather keep standard pressure ammo in that. When it was .38, Hornady Critical Defense 110 grain +P.

For .45 acp, it's 230 gr. Federal HST or 230 gr. Gold Dots. I have one pistol, a Baer Stinger that I use 230 gr. Remington Golden Sabers.

For 9mm, it's either 124 gr. Federal HST (standard pressure) or 124 gr. +P Speer Gold Dots (my Kahr likes them).

For .380, I have used FMJ but plan on switching to Hornady Critical Defense upon testing for reliability.

For .38 spl (snubbies), I've been using 135 gr +P Speer Gold Dot for short barrels but am considering switching to Remington Golden Saber 125 gr. +P.

Depending on mode I either carry a .40 or a .45 or a .380. All in about equal proportions.

I believe they are all stoked with Gold Dot HP.

In my .357 LCR the Winchester 130gr +P PDX1:

In my Shield 9 the Federal 150gr HST:

No, but I haven't really looked either. I picked up a couple boxes a week or two ago and loaded up my BHP and Shield. Pretty impressive expansion for a 150gr bullet, though.

Currently carrying:
Glock 31 IWB
125 gr. HST @ 1,385 fps / 533# KE (my chrono average)

As a 2nd option (not necessarily back up) in pocket, Kahr PM9
Corbon 115 +P JHP @ 1,264 fps / 408# KE (chrono average, from short barrel)
Corbon 115 +P performed well in Lucky Gunner test @ 1,221 fps: 13.6'' / .56 which should be sufficient for a "2nd option" ;)

I like the combo, its easy to carry & conceal, probably stick with it through summer.
