Perhaps the worlds dumbest FAL question

I alternate between the two schools of pronunciation. If I'm asking a dealer about parts, I always enunciate each letter. If I’m talking to friends, I often say fal (like “pal”). I never pronounce FN as “fin” and hadn’t even heard it that way until a buddy from Texas started to get into them (after taking my FAL as a refuge).
 
Ok, there's a bunch of ways to say "effin effay ell".

How about
WASR rhymes with flosser? or razzer? or phaser?
SAR rhymes with car?
CETME sounds like SET-may?
BAR -better say bee-eh-arr, or sometimes effin bee eh arr, even though it's not from fabrique nationale.

Do the letters in WASR, SAR, and CETME stand for anything?

If you would ask anybody from the FN factory in Herstal about their F-A-L, they wouldn't know what your talking about :confused: !

You might try FAL (ryming with pal) and they still would look confused :D , or start looking for something called 'fel' .

My advice: if you visit the FN factory , bring a picture ! It's just one of those things that can't be translated.:D
 
F.A.L. or FAL? It's merely a matter of style. Neither is incorrect.

I personally write FAL but speak it as initials F.A.L. (Eff-Aay-AL).

It's common practice for acronyms to be spoken as words:

CHP (California Highway Patrol) -- C.H.P., Chip or Chippie
WSP (Washington State Patrol) -- W.S.P., or Wasp
FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) -- F.B.I. or Fibbie
MRDA (Missile Remote Display Assembly) -- M.R.D.A., Mur-Dah or Mister-Duh (depending on how it's working).
