Perhaps the worlds dumbest FAL question

OK when I get an answer on this I'm gonna edit this post to something really technical so George doesn't drop my post count just for asking this :)

Sometimes you see FAL all in capitals suggesting you say the letters F. A. L. to refer to the rifle. Other times you see it fal suggesting it should be referred to as a word rhyming with "pal" Which way is it?

FN/FAL stands for Fabrique Nationale / Fusil Automatique Leger. That's the company name in Belgium that produced them and Light Automatic Rifle!

Gotta love 'em!

I call mine Fal (as in pal) even tho it isn't. L1A1 receiver, sorta. Takes metric mags but has folding charging handle. Shimmed barrel. Sorta a yellar dawg, don't answer to no breed but gets the job done. Quite well.

I thought he was going to ask how to spell FAL. Now that would have been a dumb question.

I didn't know how to prononce it either.;)

Sheesh! forgot the easy part of the question, didn't I? Mine is named Ef En, Ef AY El. Proper name for a proper gun, I guess - he get's mad when I try to shorten it to one syllable...

I use both. Depends on the mood. Technically it is Ef Ay El. Kind of like an AR15 isn't an Arrrr 15 or an AK47 isn't an Akkkk 47.

But come on Fahl sounds cool.

I say it both ways and it seems like I always get corrected.

I say F-A-L and someone will say dont you mean Fal?

Or I say Fal and they tell me oh you mean F-A-L.

I think either way is fine. I prefer to say F-A-L.

Kinda similar is the Browning BAR. Some folks call it the bar and others the Bee-Aye-Are. I'm the latter type, and so as for the BAR, I call my FAL- eff-aye-ale. Say "fal" in Europe and you're likely to be misunderstood.

I say it both ways. Generally I follow what ever the particular group of enthusiasts I am with say.

I don't make abbreviations into words. I say the three letters like I do for all abbreviations.
Fusil Automatique Leger. F-A-L

Interesting, the useage of Ay and Aye for english hard A. In my tongue Aye and Ay are pronounced like hard I. Or eye.

Maby a western Canadian would say it.....Eff En Eff Eh Ell. or Fowl.

Sho glad ay don't have to call it by name to get it to bayangg.
