Penetration of Handgun Rounds in Earth Berm for Range

We are actually not building the range in Thi. Most people are unaware that there were many books about Oz and that the whole thing was political satire. What I am trying to say you would have to read the book to figure out.

We are looking at low cost solutions to see if the range is a successful venture. Since the range is not a home range but one with about twenty firing points the amount of materials required could be significant. That is why we are looking at simple earth berms.

The railroad tie berm is quite nice however.

I know that the local range that I am a member of thier handgun berm is about 15 feet tall, and about half that in thickness of a soil, and sand mix with grass growing on the back to prevent erosion. When the berms were rebuilt the deepest they found bullets was 3 feet in in a spot that had worn from constant hits, and runoff from heavy rains.

The rifle berms are over 20 feet high, I am not sure how thick they are. There are baffles infront of the firing line benches 5 rows that extend for about 20 yards to keep shots down below the top of the berm.
