Paypal anti-gun?

PayPal is terrible for a long list of reasons - anti-gun is just one. They also have high fees, terrible customer service, and when I used to use them frequently I had more problems with them freezing my account for various "security" problems then with all my other accounts combined.

Just say NO to PAYPAL!!

I am not a fan of PayPal in any case.

For one thing, the system has overridden attempts to update my address. On two separate occasions, a couple years apart, I had thought I'd successfully updated an address, only to have my ordered goods go to my old place.

I had entered the shipping address I wanted in the order form, as well (which, in both cases, was also the new address).

In one case, the item was forwarded to me. In the other, it was not; PayPal was not helpful when I contacted them. I cancelled my account at that point.

But I've also read horror stories, over the years, about PayPal and eBay with regard to gun items, cancelled transactions, and locked accounts.

A combination of Big Brother plus inefficiency is not my idea of a good service. YMMV.

I think it has more to do with fear of legal action than anti-gunism

In my industry, I have to take several hours of anti-money laundering courses per year. Regardless of whether or not PayPal is a bank, banq, banc or something else, it is an entity that handles monetary transactions and, thus, is subject to rules and regulations of the Security and Exchange Commission. They will have significant monitoring and reporting requirements. Not only do they have to report the identities of individuals that move large sums of money, either over the course of time or in lump sums, they will have to record the nature of the transactions. PayPal is no small fish. It moves billions in transaction per month.

The other issue arises in that PayPal provides a very anonymous way of moving money in small amounts. It is nothing to set up an unverified account and move hundreds, or thousands of dollars per year. They really have no idea who you are. If a group (or gang, or cartel) decides to have an army of names and e-mail addresses, it could move millions, easily cleansing away the source of funds. I guarantee you, it's happening. It's a given that PayPal adheres the lowest legal standards required to permit the establishment of unverified accounts. That opens the door for misuse.

I don't think PayPal is anti-gun. Rather, they are pro-PayPal. They've got Big Brother looking over their shoulder. They've got a hefty burden in preventing money laundering. Can you image the press PayPal would receive if it were revealed that money was flowing through them to guy guns for gangs or cartels? I suspect they'd prefer to stay away from gun deals altogether.

I have never used pay Pal and never will. I have never trusted them.

I have an ING Direct account which allows me to transfer money, send funds electronically, send funds by check, or use my debit card. ALL of this is free.

For those who are interested, go to http://www.ingdirect.com. Read what you see and make up your own mind as to what you wish to do.

MODERATORS: I am not affiliated with ING other than being as satisfied a customer with them as most of those here who are dissatisfied with Pal Pal. While this is a testimonial, it is not a sales pitch; and it should not be considered one at any level. I am merely citing an alternative for those who may be interested.
