Mr. Pierce, please step back from that statement, insert "the people" for State, and then I'll be happy. This is a government ordained and endowed by the people, not a government ordained by the government. That is the difference between us and all the countries before we came along.
As for the Army, I'm surprised as hell. I tried like hell to get guys to vote. Offered unofficial passes (make it to first and last formations, and take the day off in-between) to go and vote, and most didn't give a tinker's damn. I'm glad that they've had it bad enough to inspire them to vote.
During the Gulf War, we got our absentee ballots 3 days after the election! I guess Congress may have been afraid (it was a congressional election year).
