Part 2-9mm Polymer

Here are the two polymers that I'm considering; CZ100 and Steyr M9. I'm not sure what either costs, but I'm guessing around 350-400.

Please give me the pros and cons of these two. Thanks.

Geez! I see a thread w/ that subject line & I think of the usual suspects, namely Glock & USP w/ my personal vote going to HK's USP by the way :D
I've heard some good things about the Steyr, but they're too dangerous for us here in CA. I don't recall the CZ being on my state's approved list either, so I opened this thread, tried to share some "knowledge" but had the door slammed in my face :(

Since I hate people offering other choices than the ones I ask about. I'll have to pick the Steyr.......I just kinda like the unnatural feel of the grip.

Now if it were me........I'd be looking at either the Kahr P9 or Glock 26....Pick the Kahr it's easier to conceal. IMHO.

The Steyr is a cool-looking pistol, but customer support is questionable at this point.

CZ builds tanks at bargain prices and customer support is exemplary. Between these two unusual choices, I'd go with the CZ.

PawDaddy,

New P9's, run about$500.....you should be able to pick up a nice used one for around $400. I think that alot of people will end up selling P9's in order to buy the PM9 (micro), also for concealed carry look for a P9 Covert.

CDNN has the Steyr M9 for $350.00 plus $10.00 shipping and your FFL transfer fee."The Dealer Warehouse"in the Shotgun News has the CZ-100 for $289.00 plus $10.00 shipping and your FFL transfer.I'd get a CZ only because of the uncertainty of the Steyr warranty. They are both very ergonomic.

I have always bought my guns through a local dealer. How do you go about buying one from places such as mentioned above? Do all dealers do a transfer or just certain ones? Please explain this all to me. Thanks.

Go to the site below and find a local dealer. Give them a call and make sure you know what they will charge you. Then you can go ahead and buy a gun, you/he will send them a signed copy of the FFL (and the money of course). The gun will come to the dealer and you go do the paperwork like you bought through him.

Good Luck,

I am very interested in that Steyr M9 from CDNN. I called them and they have M40s and M9s still available, but no spare mags for the M9. I called Guns Unlimited, which advertises M9 mags, and they are out (also out of M40s). If anyone knows where to find spare M9 mags, please post.

I made some calls about Steyr service yesterday (5/24/2002). I called Dynamit Nobel (www.dnrws.com), which imports and services the Steyr long guns, and they said they don't import or service the Steyr pistols right now. Based on info from another Steyr M9 thread here, I called DS Arms, Inc. (www.dsarms.com). They are negotiating with Steyr to start importing the Steyr pistols, but don't look for anything to happen until 2003, if then. The guy said Steyr will provide service through Dynamit Nobel (or a new Steyr-USA) whenever they are imported again. Right now, though, they are orphans.

Keep in mind that the CZ-100 is a DAO gun, and only available with 10 rounders... as it's a very new design, no pre-ban mags will fit it.

I believe Steyr is without a home these days. They apparently were leasing their factory and it was aquired by new owners that kicked them out. I read somewhere that even when they do setup shop again they may not make their pistols for awhile. No new pistols equals no spare parts. I personally think they are really cool and I have read nothing but good reviews. It rates up there with Glock and other poly guns, but realize that there is a reason you can get one so cheap. You may not be able to get any support or spare parts.

That's pretty bad news, Traithe. Where did you read it?

BTW, I got lucky and scored 3 Steyr M9 mags on eBay yesterday for about $25 each, plus postage. Less than Guns Unlimited and CDNN had been charging for their M9 mags. Now I at least will have a few mags if I buy one. If I end up not buying one, hopefully they will go up in price.

if cdnn still has the steyrs available, you should pick it up at that price. the only reason its less than retail is that GSI sold their stock of them as 'demo' products, even though all they did was the trigger upgrades and put maybe a few hundred rounds through each one. someone was just trying to sell a used m9 with 3 magazines, a holster and mag holders for over 600. i'm glad i paid $680 total for my m9 and m40.

when steyr does land an importer, the prices will be well over $500.

You can probably get Steyr mags at http://www.prebanmag.com/prebanmag@yahoo.com. At least they had a bunch of m357 mags the other day. In fact, I've heard you can use the Steyr 40/357 mags as high capacity 9mm mags.

I'm a Steyr fan. Yet I'm holding back at this point because there really is zero support in the U.S. Too bad. If they could have kept up some marketing steam, the early bugs worked out, etc, they could be a realy force. As an alternative, you might want to consider getting a Springfield XD (4" or 5" models).

I've heard really good repots on the CZ100.

www.prebanmag.com looks great, definitely bookmarking that one for the future. The site says they have M40 and M357, but not M9 mags. And they're already going for more than I paid on eBay for my M9 mags.

spacemanspiff, can you, in fact, use the M40 mags as high-cap M9 mags, as Pete suggests? Also, how do you like your guns?

There was another thread on the CZ-100 that stated that it would use the CZ-75 mags. I can't confirm this as fact, but you could do a search of TFL or contact CZ. It would make sense that they use the same mags if possible.

lofland, i havent tried using the 40 magazines in the 9, i didnt even know there were rumors that this was possible. guess i fail in the creative thought department. i'll see how it loads up tonight.

overall, the m9 is a fine weapon. compared to a glock, its kind of like splitting hairs. both are accurate. both have low felt recoil. both are easy to maintain. both are reliable. the only differences i like is the loaded chamber indicator, and the manual safety.

i've had some issues with the m40, failing to go into battery. and either i have some crappy ammo, since last trip to the range i had a dozen fail to fires. if it isnt the ammo, i think its a weak recoil spring, or even a weak firing pin spring. no one elsei have talked to who own the m40 had problems similar to this, so it could just be an isolated incident.

being a new shooter, i feel a remarkable difference between the 9 and .40, with the 9 having greater controlability in shot placement. the .40 pounds the hell out of my hand, which has been making me flinch more than i'd like to be.
bottom line, i'm happy with my purchase, and would do it again if possible.

Thanks for giving us the benefit of your side-by-side comparison. I'm a new shooter, too, this makes me glad I got the M9 mags. I'll have call CDNN tomorrow to see if they still have any M9s. This makes two gun purchases in one week, but I just want to get this thing before it's gone.
