Parker Hale rifle

I've seen a couple from time to time but never really handled one. I now have the opportunity to pick one up, model 1200, in .30-06 with a 24" bbl. So the question is how does this rifle compare to a M70 or Rem 700? Thanks

I have a 1200 in .270, it isn't the prettiest rifle but it is accurate. It was a little beat up when i bought it but i picked it up for less than $300 so I can't complain. The action wont cycle as smoothly as most M700 and M70's, but there a Mauser 98 action so there tough and cycle and feed reliably.

The action is comparable to a current production CRF M-70, but with a safety similar to a pre-1982 Remington.

They are a better finished version of the Interarms MK-X. Tough, bulletproof dependable rifles. Not the best triggers, nor smoothest actions, or most accurate. But if you want a dependable rifle they are a good choice. At one time they were quite popular in the larger calibers as an inexpensive DG rifle among African guides wanting a dependable gun on a budget.

I have a much earlier P-H Euro-only Safari Grade .30-06 (which came to the US in a GI dufflebag in the late 50's), which was made years before the 1200's, etc, were introduced.

Mine is actually a true Mauser 98, but with integral receiver dovetail scope mount bases, which take P-H "roll-off" rings. (Upper rifle, below)

Except for the much newer P-H SxS shotgun's, which weren't made by P-H (AFAIK), the rifles have always been very well made & accurate.

I have a parker hale rifle in 30-06 it was given to me by a close family friend. It is a model 98 action so its tough as nails but in my opinion not as smooth as the newer 700 actions. But this gun will shoot, I will be the first to tell you I am not the steadiest shot for groupings but this gun with my reloads will put 5 into an inch or a little less. I think the gun can do better but I have yet to bother because its just my deer rifle and it already has 2 kills under its belt. Overall I think they are great deer rifles and are a good value, as well as having a bit more class with nice walnut stocks and bright blue finishes. I just like the look of a classic hunting rifle. And even in the cold and rain down here in south texas winters its performed admirably.
