Paintball

How many of TFL Members played PAINTBALL?
I'm a big fan and even used to own a field and run a winning team.
The gun (often called Marker) I used was called a BLACK KNIGHT... The Glock of the paintball world... Semi Auto and Polymer. It was a tough gun and had a lot going for it. Didn't really catch on as there were a lot of better guns out there that had more flexability... AutoMags and AutoCockers, Tippmans Pro-Lites and now the Tippman FLATLINER which is what I am wanting very badly... AutoMag is making a new feed system now called the WARP FEED which is very freaking cool and would be just perfect for the Tippman Flatliner.
9-22-00 I will be playing a series of PB games up in Ogden for a company management team building activity.
"Forgive them Father for they know not what they do..."
(insert evil laughter here)
I LOVE PAINTBALL.
I remember playing with my bro one time... Freakin Sneakybutt Marine Nerd flanked me and tagged me right in the EAR! Thank heavens for quality made headgear called the Spectra System... Saved what left I had of hearing.
Me and him were quite the team. We went into a match as a pair and went up against a bunch of more experienced players who all had better equipment... came down to us and one other guy on the last opposing team. The guy was tucked in like a tick and was defending like a Mutha... My Bro and I started Taunting him - he got so mad he came out charging like an furious African Wildebeast... Bro and I were ready for it. Game Set Match.
We played everywhere... College Campus, woods, Construction sites, riverbeds, out in the open desert, dunes, everywhere. Lived to play.
Best sport there is.
If I can't be shooting - I want to be playin paintball!

You might laugh in the face of FEAR... but unless your armed, its a nervous, unconvincing, little laugh.

"If I can't be shooting - I want to be playin paintball! "

I gather you don't have many children.

Sam....rotten to the core, and that is AP

That's your job????? Wo.

I'm not jealous, I'm not, I'm not.

i love to paint to

one of my favorite moves when everyone is pinned down and lobbing randomly is to go Sgt. Rock & Roll.

i calmly walk right out into the middle gun blazing!
i can take out 3 or 4 before someone gets me
The rest of my team takes off while i draw massive attention. You only die once (per game)

i will even do it in speed ball if i am bored

BANZAI!

after all, we are just having FUN aren't we?

:)

Paint ball is indeed the sport of Kings. It requires a well rounded operator.

I have found that remembered military tactics and training are very much aplicable to the sport, but not the otherway around.

A gratefying game.

I play every now and then. My Tippmann Model98 has a nice Lapco barrel and an el cheapo BSA 30mm red-dot sight mounted on it. :) FUN FUN!!

The Tippmann's a real workhorse. I was looking into a Flatline, but too much $$$...need more real guns instead :) Unless, of course, I find a nice AT85R for sale that I just can't pass up...full auto magazine-fed paintball guns = YEEEHAAAAA!!!

I too play here in So. CA, although in the summer it is too hot since it get up to the 100's and having all that gear on is hot! I have an F4 Illustrator by ACI and my roommate has a custom Auto Cocker (he is competitive in it, I'm just a rec player). I am looking to get a Cocker though. I find that all my tactics for shooting and bunkering and taking cover don't perish while playing paintball. Its a good game to learn and teach the little ones. Its a blast to go Rock and Roll on someone that's bunkered up and nail them from a couple yards out. Nothing like the smell of paintball in the mornin'!

I used to play back when it was relatively new {91'/92' I was 13). I had a Spartan pump gun and some of my Dad's hand-me-down fatigues. The older guys always stuck me with defending the fort. I'll never forget this one game against some aged yuppies ("Back in Nam' man.."), A huge (300lbs+) fatguy was railing the walls of my fort with an automatic paintball gun (rare back then). He probably went through $50 worth of ammo just painting the exterior. While he was reloading I rushed his fat @ss and "plunk-plunk" nailed him with my POS pump gun. He was so pissed ! It was like that all day, the guy probably spent hundreds on his gear and didn't even get one kill. It is a very humbling sport, not to mention EXPENSIVE. Might as well enjoy it while it's on the company's dime.

Highschool came and I eventually lost the gun. Teenager + paintballgun + Halloween = Community service ;).

Expenive? Yo ucan buy a very nice Marker for the price of a HI POINT.
No it isn't a real gun - but the tactics you learn couls save your arse when the REAL ones get drawn. Tactics like SHOOT AND MOVE get ingrained into your soul...
The Cocker is a large gun and while one might admire it's custom features... You could be putting your cash away for a gun that HE will admire... Like the new AutoMag coming out with the electronic trigger and bottom feed system... Its very nice.
The F4 is a great gun... So is the Spyders and Angels.
You can get all kinds of high tech with these toys. My favorite is getting LOW TECH. Like making your own paintball silencers (which is perfectly legal in the sport) out of a length of PVC pipe, steel wool and duct-tape. :D
Works every time. All you need is about 5 minutes and a drill.
That and a pump gun with a scope - you got a killer paintball sniper rifle.

I only recently started playing paintball, and it's a total blast! I put it off for a few years by telling friends that Uncle Sam kinda got that whole, "running around the woods in BDUs shooting at each other" phase out of my system, but I finally decided to check it out.

Awesome ancedote on my first day: I was moving to our left flank as the right side was a virtual traffic jam and saw one guy on my team pinned down behind a rock. I was heading over to his position to back him up when one of our "enemies" rushes him yelling, "surrender!" only to look up and see me crawling about 15' away.

SPLAT!

I didn't realize how close they were, but I had a feeling there was more than one, so I crawled around this embankment and shrubbery. As I was moving, I heard someone say very clearly, "There's only one guy! Let's rush him on the count of three!" I was now behind them, and when I heard them beginning their rush, I crouched up, and shot 5 of them in the back (they were in the middle of rushing my last position).

Lessons learned:
1. Never assume your enemies are where you saw them last.

2. Make sure you think of the battlefield in 360 degrees.

3. If you start taking fire, including seeing your buddy in front of you get shot in the back, DO NOT stop to look around for the shooter. :)

I live 20 minutes from SC Village (Sat Cong Village, if anyone remembers).

There's nothing like hooking a paitball, via wind, around an obstacle to drill some sorry sap who thinks he's safe.

My weapon of choice is the venerable Autococker. My first was the AK of paintguns, the VM-68.

I have played Paintball, but not anything organized to a great degree. There is one location that is local to me that is AWESOME!!!!!!!! Ruff terrain, but god it is nice to play on! Would also like to a have an "Every man for himself" game upstate in the mountains.. That would be FUN :D

Dead [Black Ops]

Well, I guess there not as expensive as they used to be. 8-10 years ago my gun went for $300 and 100 paintballs cost $8 (1992 dollars mind you ;)). That was a lot to a 13yr old. I remember wanting an Illustrator because it's barrel was ported. Do they still make those ?

Check Ebay for paintball stuff. I've seen lots of Automags and Autocockers for very reasonable prices (~$350).

Paint is currently about $60/2000.

Paintguns seem to be coming down in price, with the exception of the newest electro-pneumatic types (Angel, et al). Lots of good, reliable, guns, like the Tippman Pro-xxx series, can be had for around $200.

Probably the best field I've ever played was the abandoned Marine Recon base at Onna Point, in Okinawa. No areas were off limits, including roofs, ledges, BEQ rooms, etc. It was urban paintball heaven. Unfortunately, we never had a chance to play at Combat Town.

MTAA, I had a similar experience to yours. Was using a rented PGP pistol, and some guy with a Tippman auto was pinning everybody down. I flanked him in a shallow ditch, crawled to within about 20 feet, took a deep breath, popped up, and popped him with one to the head. He was really PO'd that a first timer with a PGP took him out. (Check six, AND nine, AND three! I got him form the nine.)
I once ended up as the last man of a three man team, against the entire other team. They didn't know I had a paint grenade, though, and one tried to keep me pinned down while the other two flanked me in a village mock up. The two made the mistake of coming in together instead of from opposite sides, and I bombed 'em both with the grenade. While the third guy was trying to figure out what had happened to his team, I got the drop on him. By that time, I was using a Razorback pump with a Six-Pack.
Still have that gun, but don't play very often. I might have to give it a try this fall after it cools down. (Too hot & humid for summer play in SC; heat stroke or heat exhaustion would be routine.)

Been playing since PGP pistols were the standard and a 40 round box feed and constant air tank was cutting edge... Remember the "Bushmaster" paintball gun that ruled the roost?

I remember those Tippman full-autos too. 15 or 20 rounds in paintball stripper clips isn't very practical IMO. I seem to remember them bouncing a lot also.

Haven't played since I joined the Navy though so I am way out of the loop on the latest gear... my last paintball gun was a PMI-III/VM-68 with rifled 17" barrel and 20oz/7oz tanks back and front. It was a hawg of a paintball gun but reliable and accurate.

Heard that Tippman had come out with a select-fire hopper fed gun?

Recreational player. I have a Tippman Prolite that is my main gun. Love that thing. You can't hardly hurt them or jam them. I also have my old original Stingray. It is held together with duct tape, and its the one that I loan to friends who don't have their own gear.

I love paintball. My coworkers think I'm nuts when I come in after a paintball weekend with welts and bruises all over my body. :D
George, a couple of times a year Pegleg paintball in SLC puts on huge games on their field out west of Lehi. The last one that I went to had about 150 people. You want to talk about intense. It makes for a target rich environment. I have a couple of friends that work at Pegleg, next time there is a big game I'll let you know, if your interested.

George Hill,

Two years ago in a big paintball championship in Florida, a team from Utah made up of a bunch of tech-types came from nowhere and went into the championship round against the top ranked team called "Rage." The underdog team had a guy with one leg. Their team name was "The Parapalegic Turtles." They were awesome! They were ahead on points and would have won the championship if they had abondonded their aggressive style of play and just layed back and waited for Rage. It was close, but, IIRC, a Rage player did a "dead man's walk" by acting as if he had been hit and walked down the sidelines until he managed to flank the Turtles and take out a key position. Very good play. A lot of drama.

Reason I brought this up: Your not one of them pesky Turtles are you?

William

I started playing shortly after the sport became known..., around '85? Hand-cycled repeater pistols at that time. I quit after about 3 years, but it was great fun. Well..., except when you got hit in the lip or ear (we used simple safety goggles, not the face masks.)

Hard to believe all the "super-guns" they have these days. My younger brother was on a team, through the early and mid-90's..., traveled all over the country to play in tournaments.
