P99: current opinions?

I just thought I'd throw this in. My German made P99 9mm came with a German test target. All in the center ring and it looks like one ragged hole made by three or four rounds and two a little off but still in the three inch diameter ring.

German mags

My P99QA has the German proof marks and I have the magazines that have Walther stamped on one side and Meggar on the other with an Orange follower.

On the base pad it is stamped with the Walther logo and P99.

Maybe its the black followers that are the S&W mags - ha.

I AM probably wrong here, but...

As far as the mag issue goes, MecGar is the exclusive patent holder on them, and I think they are the only manufacturer. If you buy an SW mag and a Walther mag and check the mag numbers, they should be the same. IF SW has acquired a license then maybe there is a difference, but then maybe the average cost of magazines will drop too. Sole sourcing leads to quality ata price.

I keep my P99 ,9mm to remind me how much better, and more reliable my other handguns are. I'm one that has a GERMAN LEMON in my WALTHER. Yes they have made upgrades available, but then I wouldn't have anything to complain about. I still don't want to deal with S/W, so untill Walther gets a different warrantee agent i'll keep complaining when the opportunity lets me.. :D

wishbone, if ya hate the thing that much, sell it...cheap <to me> that will give you something else to complain about. "damn thing never worked right AND i got less than half of what i paid for it!!!"

*grin*

Re: Earl's Service - Earl is The Man when it comes to Walthers! I've
bought several times from him and he gets two thumbs up.

Last item I got was a set of European sights for the P-99, with
the "U" shaped rear sight outline (instead of three dots). I've found
that this dramatically improves the sight picture for my tired old eyes.

spent a few hours at the range today with my trusty p-99 <9mm>. see below for results.

forgot to add that these were at about 9 yards.

Adept, you seem to be stringing your shots vertically. Maybe your anticipating recoil? Have you tried a surprise snap-cap in your magazine to see if you are pushing down when you shoot?

nmglocker, not a bad idea. just need to have someone randomly load the mag for me. since i tend to shoot alone lately it's difficult.

adept,

I think nmglocker is on to something. I have a target that looks exactly like that. The friend I was with was smirking when I finished. I asked him what was up. He said it looked like I was giving my gun CPR. I was pushing forward hard and breaking my wrists down. He said I even stepped into the shot once.

After he made me aware of it I did a couple of mags of very slow deliberate fire concentrating on the basics. Things tightened up after that.

It's tougher to do by yourself. If it's a public range see if the person in the next bay will help you out with loading the mags. Offer to help them with something in return. You might make a new shooting buddy.

I have quite a few magazines for my P99, so what I do when i'm shooting alone is randomly insert a snap-cap in one or two mags, then do the magazine shuffle for a while, then pick them up and start shooting. I confuse myself  that way. Helps with malfunction drills too. Good Luck. :D
