P7M8 for ccw? Pro/Con

Gents,

It would be nice if we could talk about guns without somebody getting personal. Let leave all the personal jabs on the other forums...eh? I personally wish Glocks did cost a $1000. Unfortunately I sold my 23 for much less. The gun generally functioned--but it was certainly nothing to get excited about. Completely irresponsible design from a saftey standpoint. Oh, well. At least Glock seems to be pro gun rights. It never ceases to amaze me to see U.S. gun companies jumping in bed with people who want to see them destroyed (although I recently read an article by Gaston himself braggging about ballistic fingerprinting).

The P7 can flop around if not properly supported when carried. Two things I have noticed that help: the short barrel means the holster needs to fully cover the trigger guard thus providing support to the grip. For this reason I like IWB over a belt slide or pancake type rig, so that the belt helps hold the gun from flopping out. A good non-IWB holster for this gun will also have material which comes up to protect the slide all the way to the top. The exception to the above is the P7M10, which has a much heavier slide. With the short barrel it is easy to over balance this variant in a holster, and have it sag out or fall forward even with the extra leather. For me this should be a IWB carried gun only, since the IWB helps to solve these issues by using belt tension and your body to keep the gun in tight. Mitch Rosen makes a special variant of his ARG, called the ARG+, specifically for the M10. It has an extra long body, below the muzzle, to help counter the topheavy nature of the gun.
