Own Any Guns You Have Never Shot??

I was speaking with a neighbor this morning and he mentioned that he owned 16 handguns, so I jokingly asked how he decided which to shoot. He told me that he has only shot about half the guns he owns even though he has owned some since the 1980s. Basically he said he buys a gun because he likes it, but generally only shoots two or three of the guns. He said he isn’t saving them as an investment or anything, but just has no desire to shoot them.

So, for some reason I found this kind of strange. When I buy a gun I can’t wait to shoot it and have even been known to shoot one right after purchase even without cleaning. Yes, I have some I like better than others and some that seldom get shot, but none that have never been shot.

So, do any of you ever buy a gun and then simply never shoot it? Again, I’m not necessarily referring to collectables just average firearms.

I do it a lot. I have intentions of shooting them, but then find myself going to the range with the same stuff that I always go with. I have fun, though, so what the heck.

I've shot all of mine except three. An early Springfield 1903 that I haven't researched enough to convince myself it's safe, and a WWII Mauser 98 that I've had for years (that I got from my dad & he had it for years) and just never got around to cleaning all the cosmoline out of it. Then there's my 1863? Spencer that I haven't gotten around to finding ammo for yet. I've shot all my handguns.

I normally shoot my guns as soon as I can after buying them. I do have an old single shot 20 gauge that I haven't shot but more than anything I just don't really trust it.

Just one - a Model 29. I saw it on the internet list of my LGS, described as in "good" condition and the price was attractive, so I took a drive over and it turned out to be ANIB, seemingly unfired, with just the faintest of turn lines, and in the original mahogany box with all the tools and papers. That, of course, made the price very attractive indeed, so I took it home. I have another 29 and a 629 to shoot, so I'm just letting this one be a safe queen.

Got a few myself that I have not shot...
Valmet 223 new in box.
M super 90 new in box.
Got some of them Colts new in the box from the first scare!
and a number of pistols too.

I have a Mauser C-96 Broomhandle that I bought refurbed, and have not shot. Also have a Ruger MK II 50th Anniversary that has been kept unfired NIB, because I have four other MKII's to shoot. I'll probably shoot it someday, just never had the occasion.

I have a couple that apply here. There are a few guns that I just very much love to shoot, and when I find the time to go to the range, these are the ones that I always take.

I'll get around to shooting the newbies one of these days.

There are a few that belonged to my dad (who passed away last year) that I've never shot in my life, and for sentimental reasons I've never been able to bring myself to shoot these. One of these days though, I'll run some rounds through em.

I have an Ithaca Model 37 that I bought used. When I got it home I followed the usual practice of stripping it down for cleaning and inspection.

The gun is overly complicated and took WAY too long to clean. Thus, I have never fired it because I don't want to clean it!

WOW! I can't believe all the guns that don't get used by you fellas. When I get a new one I can't wait to shoot it. I understand the concept of collectables but I couldn't own a gun and not shoot it.
I've got a fair collection including some inherited pieces and all have been shot by me enough to know they can be trusted to function. If they prove to be unreliable I either fix them or sell them. Personally I won't have a weapon I don't know to be reliable and the only way to know that is to shoot them.

I own a 25# all iron 1" bore whaling gun from the 1880's. It fires a harpoon with a time delay explosive called a bomb lance. I have repeatedly check with Wallmart and can find no ammo for this petite ladies gun, so I have never fired it.

I have a couple that I have never shot. Never got around to it with one rifle, a few of the pistols just look too dang nice and I have no desire to shoot them... They do get handled, carefully, but handled.

Yep. My ccw piece. Just got a brand new G30 and some defense ammo. Cant find a box of range ammo anywhere to shoot. Thanks ammo hoarders, thanks a lot.

Just because I don't shoot all of the doesn't mean that I don't enjoy them- I take most of them apart (exceptions are Pythons and a couple of other) and study their designs and components in detail, comparing and contrasting to similar makes.
