The point I was trying to make, and apparently missed, was that the century old $20 gold piece has value beyond its metal content, or the stated face value.
Newly minted, its value WAS the metal content, but now, a century+ later, it has additional value as a rare coin. I believe that value to still be enough to purchase a new Colt SAA (if such a thing exists, are they still coming out of the Custom Shop these days? I haven't checked lately).
I looked on Google and $20 gold pieces seem to be in the mid 12to mid !1300 range. Last time I looked (and its been a while) One of the Colt Custom Shop SAAs was in the $1200 range.
probably a bit more now, but the point was the "value" of the coin was worth a good revolver then, and still is today, but the same face value Federal Reserve Note ($20 bill) isn't even remotely close.
