over the top customized Ruger Old Army

I like it

The gun, obviously to its owner, looks, feels & shoots how he likes it... he has personalised it to how he likes it.... good on him.

I liken it to someone having an old car & putting on new mag wheels... doesnt help the car much, but if the owner likes it.... mission accopmplished :D

He likes it, I like it, some of you other gus like it.... some don't.... so what? dont buy it :D

I bet it shoots well.... after all, it is an ROA still... & ROA's are pretty darn accurate to start with....

This one gets a +1 from me :D

(now, if it were all done to a flintlock pistol.... that might be over the top)

LOL! Now THAT almost sounds like a mission! You just wait to see my "tactical", all-black, picatinny railed, red dot scoped, ultra high capacity (uh...) FLINTLOCK just as soon as I can gin one up. :D

Cheers,
Oly

Olyinaz - if you make one, you've got to install a laser sight and tactical light. Might as well have a back-up lighter in case the flint breaks.

Absolutely. On rails up front. :p

Any reason why revolvers shouldn't be considered to be one of the earlier inline action designs?

Yes there's a reason for that... cause it's not and inline design, it's a revolver as you stated. :O)

If anything a revolver evolved form a 1830's precussion cap traditional Rifle/Pistol.

Wait a minute. You are all riding the previous owner of this gun too hard. No, it is not something I would do to a Cap and Ball gun but I've seen a lot worse. If some one wants to wring the utmost accuracy possible out of one, this is the way to do it. Not everyone shoots cowboy or rendevous matches.
You could flip that cylinder out, insert a conversion cylinder and load it up with 300 gr JHPs and W296 and have one hell of a hog gun.
Giving some one grief over a jeweled hammer?
Did someone just have a severe attack of the troll fever?
$540? I think it was a steal.

It looks neat, in a morbid way. Perhaps function over form. Definitely something interesting. I think it's a great hog killer just like it is.

I wouldn't have it but, there are a lot of guns I don't have. There is no good reason to do that to a C&B revolver, except that the owner wanted to. There is no good reason to have the proliferation of cartridges available to the shooter either. One could do everything one needs to with about 4 cartridges. Rimfire, small cal. medium caliber. heavy caliber. Choose your favorites in each category.

The point is, we have so many because tastes differ, and people have their own reasons for which they like. So also with the gun in question, I have no use for it, but I don't have any use for a car with 600 HP either. Look at the gun, like it or don't, but don't make offensive remarks about the builder unless you have some real knowledge of him, or his creation. To each his own.;)
