Other Good Revolvers

While they're certainly much more expensive than a Ruger, S&W, or even a Colt; Both Manurhin and Korth make excellent revolvers. In fact, a Manurhin is probably the finest double action revolver you can by with a Korth as a close second. The only drawback is the price (the Korth costs $4,700 and the Manurhin is $1,399).

Every time the current regime at S&W has butchered it's classic designs, it has claimd it was an improvement.
They are not improvements.
They are just sad ways to make what used to be good guns more cheaply.
The whole thing with the DW barrels was INTERCHANGEABILITY. You could convert your snubby to a IMHSA competition peice. DW claimed it made their guns more accurate, but any IMHSA competitor can point out that other makes and models won as much as compeititors with DWs. DWs were popular in IHMSA because they were every bit as rugged (if not more) than Rugers.

>> Supposedly, this gives better accuracy as a side benefit.

I am a Smith fan from way back, having been given my first one as a 13 yr old. I do not feel a comparison can be made from an oeiginal Model 19 to a current 2 pc barrel, key hile thingy they make today. Not the same, never will be.

However, given the current crop of wheelguns available to the public, I fell Smith is still the best, and really the only, option. Colt, the only true competition that Smith ever had is no longe in the wheelgun business. Taurus tries, and tries hard, but they just cant get there. They have some awesom ideas, and some cool concepts, but the results of these rarely pan out. Rossi...oh, never mind.

Ahhh, now we come to Ruger. In my opinion, Ruger was once on its way to eing the peer of Smith. When the Redhawk came out, and the Security and Speed Six were in production, they were on the fast track. With the introduction of the heavy, ugly, and unergonomic GP/SP series, they dropped the ball. The Six series guns had decent triggeres, and great handling attributes. The GP is a joke, IMO. I also believe the rumored strength discrepancy between the two makes is mosty rumor, with a tiny bit of fact thrown in, with all of it being remedied by the L-frame introduction.

In the end, there are a few "good" revolvers left, but for the real deal, there is only one choice, S&W, old or new.

Smith makes the best revolver. For someone to be shot with anything else would be doing them an injustice. :p
It just can't be done!

Colt, Smith, Hi Standard, and Ruger are tops - stick with them.

Early charter revolvers worked very well but did not look very good.

I had problems with Taurus, Rossi.

Iver Johnson doesnt look good either.

Colt or Ruger

Smoothest by far-Colt, Strongest- Ruger, Improved smith and Wesson-Taurus (they updated smith with a modern floating firing pin and coil springs= much improved reliability) Last Smith and Wesson. They are spotty in Quality Control and barely have changed the design since they filed them out of scrap steel one at a time. I see Rossi as about on par with Smith &Wesson also.
