Other "assault rifles"?

Don't forget the CZ VZ58. The Czechs are still using it as their battle rifle and it is a select fire weapon. It is being phased out, but all considered has had quite a long run with their military and is still quite serviceable.

The designers, knowing they were on to something, used the fiction of calling the rifles MP so, since they were SMGs they flew under the beaurucratic radar of Hitlers order.

Curiously, the NVA (the East German one, not the Vietnamese one) also called their AKs machine pistols, the Austrians called both their FALs and AUGs Sturmgewehrs, and the West Germans just called everything rifles. I assume that the variation in the official terminology was purely based on "Sturmgewehr" having a direct association with Hitler.

The one that get's me is the "Sporting Arms" BS that is being used for the ARs and AKs. Like you need a rifle that can use 30 rounds or more to go hunting, and that they are no differerent than a Remington 700 or Savage Model 100 and should be considered the same.

People hunt different things, in different ways, Jim.
Helping the antis take the rifles you hate out of the hands of other hunters is just one step closer to antis taking your rifles, as well.
What's so different about a Browning BAR or Remington 750, that sets them apart from an AK, or AR? A semi-auto rifle is a semi-auto rifle.

None of them are "assault rifles".

Which ones are acceptable to you for "sporting" uses? ;)

An assault rifle is a full auto weapon firing an intermediate power cartridge used to lay down a large amount of supressive fire. The Sten, Thompson, MP-40, etc. are technically termed sub machine guns because they fire a pistol round. Anything that fires a full power round, such as .308, would be classified as a main battle rifle.
