Hello everyone!,

I would like to know what some opinions are on the Desert Eagle .50AE.

Tell me anything and everything youd like to about `em.
Ive never shot one before but from all the latest movie hype about e the are quite difficult to ignore!

Thanks!!

They're marvelous hunting handguns I would assume, but as a combat/home defense weapon, I would not want to carry one around (for the weight, you could easily have a SMG or a carbine!).

I'd rather have one of the Tromix Jackhammer .50AE uppers for the Ar-15. Now that would be a potent manstopper!

I have a DE in polished chrome in .50AE. Let me say that the thing is completely useless, very expensive to buy, totally impractical, very expensive to shoot (almost a buck a bullet), etc.

That being said, I love mine. It's so much fun to shoot. The muzzle blast is huge. It's loud too. I'ts so much fun. You can't help but laugh after each round.

I wouldn't recommend it as a first gun, nor would I recommend it as a carry, defensive, duty, etc gun. However, if you've got a grand laying around doing nothing, and want a fun gun to impress your friends with, trust me: buy one.

I've shot one on 2 occasions... both left me not wanting one. Don't get me wrong, they look cool and have great power, but unless you have gorilla hands it feels like you're hanging on to a 2x4. Also, that 2x4 wants to get out of your grasp in a hurry when you touch one off!

I have also shot a Desert Eagle , imo the gun is just too
heavy for practical defense . Personally i found The classic S&W
model 29 to be more fun . Just my opion though .

I have one in my house, not because I wanted it, but because my wife wanted one. The mere size of the thing is intimidating, it weighs close to 4.5 pounds empty. It doesn't get much heavier because it only holds 7 rounds. And right now you can get 100 rounds for 88 dollars..quite the bargain in .50AE.

That being said..what is it good for? Why have one? Because I CAN...no other reason, mine seldom gets shot, but once I start reloading for it that may change.

As many have said on here before, it is a lot of money for a gun that really has no purpose, other than being very big and very loud....I think everyone should have one.

They are movie guns. That is all. There are a hell of alot of guns that I would buy before ever wasting my money on one of those. I have a 50ae in a freedom arms revolver and it is a pretty decent cartridge. The 454 casull outperforms it past around 75 yards though becuase of the huge bullet that the 50 uses. If that is your first gun then I would very strongly suggest against buying it. Unless you reload then you wont be able to afford shooting it. If you really want a desert eagle buy a 357 or 44 since it will be a lot cheaper to shoot.

I got a chance to shoot one last weekend.

Oh. My. God! Never have I had that much fun shooting a handgun. Quick story. I went to the range last weekend with some buddies of mine. I'm watching my friends as he is shooting my CZ. KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! What was that? KABOOOOOOOOOOM! Ok, I gotta see whats going on here. Apparently the whole range did also. All 20 odd lanes stopped to see what this guy was doing. Chrome .50 DE with a reddot site. Wow! Everytime he touched one off, my pant legs fluttered from the shockwave, atmosphereic pressure changes, whatever. Well this guy was nice enough to offer me and my friends a chance at shooting it. My friend Rob got up first and shot off a round. He left the lane giggling like a lunitic. I was next. I asked the DE owner if he had any tips. He said, "Just hold on REAL tight." KABOOOOOOOOOOOM! My whole body shook (6'4" 180). Totally amazing! I too, left the lane giggling like an idiot. As much fun as they are though, I cannot justify the cost. But it'll certainly attract attention.

If I had a few grand laying around, I'd have one in a heart beat.

(BTW, thanks to the guy who let me shoot it. An expereince I will never forget)

But is the gun actually accurate? I mean, if it was in .357 mag it might make a quite useable pistol. If it has good potential for accuracy then I might consider getting a chrome Deagle in .357 mag for target shooting...

daMn thats one sexy gun!

I have both a Mk VII in .357 Mag. and a Mk XIX in .50 AE. Gotta agree with branrot about the practicality of the .50 AE,but it is definitely fun to shoot, and I'd depend on it for defense against any creature in North America(including Alaska).

Both calibers are super accurate.I'm able to hit a picnic plate with a full magazine with either gun at 100 yds, shooting without a rest, though the .357 Mag will make tighter groups-I've been able to hold to about 5" with it-the .50 is around the edges of the plate.

I have a pair of DE's... a .44and a .50...

sweet to play with... ok for hunting... (prefer my Dan Wesson .44)

they are a "novelty" gun... GREAT fun to shoot...

expensive to feed (.50) and a bit punishing on the ol' hand... (but not too bad)

fun if you can afford it...

Last time I was in the USA, I fired a .50AE at the local range. Bloody thing was like shooting a firehose with one hand.

Absolutely delightful, but impractical.

You may wish to consider the DE .440 Cor-Bon. The case is a .50 AE necked down at the mouth to take the standard .44 mag. bullet. Same energy as the .50 AE but much better ballistics and flatter trajectory than the .50 AE. Ammo costs like hell. Great hunting pistol. Get it with the 10 inch barrel, scope and lazer, go whole hog!

I don't see any practical purpose for that gun. Maybe for range shooting, but for practical purpose...hm....I would rather get a shotgun.

I am really interested in the .440 Cor-Bon, but I'd rather shoot it in something more practical, like an AR upper. I haven't picked up the upper yet, but I will some day.

If you cannot afford the ammo, the gun makes a very good club :D

I've only shot DEs in .44 MAG. More accurate and a lot less recoil than I expected, but hella big and hella expensive.

For utility and cheap-to-shoot, you'd be better off buying the weirdo 5.56 "handguns." While I'm picturing the ones made out of AR15 lowers, the Blade Runner handgun made off of a Steyr Mannlicher SL would get a lot more looks at the range than the Desert Ego.

I had a DE .44 for a while and found it wonderfully accurate. Then I got a DE .50 and found it even more accurate. They are wonderful pistols. A lady friend of mine, a Hooter's Girl who weighs just under 100 pounds fully dressed -- loves the DE .50 as her favorite pistol. She carries a Makarov however. Her favorite rifle is a folding stock AK.

As she puts it, with a naughty smile, (she loves to be naughty) "Happiness is a Warm Gun. Size Does Matter and I get both with my Desert Eagle Fifty." She loves showing up at the range in her short-shorts, Hooters T-Shirt tied up high with her hair in two pig tails and going up to the counter with her little shooting bag. She KNOWS every eye in the room is on her. Then she reaches in and pulls out her Gold DE .50 She DOES love attention.

:D

I have a DE, .44 mag 6" barrel and .50AE 10".

The .44 is fun to shoot, and kicks like a mule. The .50AE is scary to shoot and kicks like a pissed off mule! It must be my small hands but the DE seems to kick much harder than my .44 redhawk.

For home defense, don't use the DE as a primary weapon, use it as both! After missing with eight rounds of .44 mag, you can club the perp with the empty gun which is an extremely effective weapon by itself!:p

All in all, I have to agree with my fellow DE owners. Except for specific circumstances, the gun is impractical. Although, you always seem to leave the range with a smile after shooting one!

To me, these things are overpriced novelty toys. They can make you extremely obnoxious to fellow shooters on an indoor range (maybe that is your intent?). They may also get you labeled with the "must compensate for the small you-know-what" syndrome.

You'll have more fun, and save a ton of money, by renting the range's full-auto HK or Beretta sub-gun.
