So that when you reload the pistol (empty mag or malfunction) there is slightly more travel on that initial trigger press of that magazine. That's how I always interpreted it. It's like a mild speed bump.
I have never owned a handgun that felt better in my hand. The egos are the best. I had to sell it however as it wanted to jam every 10th shot or so. Didn't trust it
