Opinions at the range

Ignore such comments. In the society in which we live today, when we are out and about, the most important weapon is the one you carry. For most people that is a small .380, 9mm or.38 special. I practice with my S&W Model 60 about once per month, just to stay sharp with it. Where I shoot, it is quite common to see folks practicing with their easily concealable and comfortable to carry CCW weapons. I own a full size .45, but think of it more as a house gun or a SHTF carry gun. If I could carry my Mossberg 590 in my back pocket, I would, but it's just not practical. Some "range experts" think that anyone who does things differently from them, is foolish, but choosing the right CCW for you is a very individual choice. It is only common sense to practice and stay sharp with the weapon you carry.

Not sure if he was trying to impress his female client or give me sage advice.

Your answer is right there. What's more likely, that he'd take time away from his client to help you, or that he's showing off?

Whether on the range, the office, forums or at a social gathering - one constant these days is the verbal manifestation of insecurity. Our rapid communication culture coupled with the disappearance of integrity is producing buffoons at a meteoric rate. The range, gun shops, gun shows, gun forums have attracted and will continue to attract the maladjusted -- avoid them -- enjoy your range time and forget the inevitable presence of whack jobs.

Even the highest regarded "expert opinions" are still just opinion.

I have taken heat for my choice of the 9mm also, yet no one ever wants to go down range with a catchers mit.

Mouse Guns are lethal .I carry one every day . SEECAMP 32 or BERETTA 21A .22LR .IN MY POCKET. My primary is close buy RUGER SP101 or MP 40 C. A gun is a gun if you know how to use it.

I find going to the gun range is just as amusing as going to my local boat launching ramp and watching the self proclaimed experts launch their boats, a comedy of errors.

The advise received at a gun range that I will never forget was when I had just completed running two magazine through my Rohrbaugh R9s. The guy on the adjacent lane looked over and said; is that your carry gun? If I were you I would not depend on an off brand gun like that for self protection, I'd get a name brand gun like mine. He was shooting what appeared to be a Bersa .380.

This kind of conversation makes me very grateful I'm a member of a fantastic private gun club here in the St. Louis, Missouri metro area: The Arnold Rifle and Pistol Club.

We have combat pits that are private and when you get into one you are all by yourself, so you don't have to listen to, or watch, anyone doing or saying stupid things, not that this happens too often at our club.

You get left alone and nobody bothers anybody else with unsolicited "advice" or "expert opinions" unless you strike up a conversation.

On the rifle ranges the mood is, in my experience, one of mutual interest and respect and everyone is ready to talk firearms, show what they have and answer questions.

When/if on rare occasions we have somebody not following the safety protocols, the person is spoken to directly and in some cases firmly.
