Opening Day Blacktail: Pics (mildly graphic)

And now the fun part: This was my first deer, taken with a brand-new, never-fired, not even sighted-in, borrowed from my hunting buddy. Talk about rookie everything! I just hope I didn't burn up all my luck on this one! the shot(s) were from about 20-25yds. Both shots were taken on the run

So many wrong things in this small paragraph it's incredibly idiotic....

Forrest Gump had a saying about folks like this....."Stupid is, as Stupid does"

spaceman, very good point.

hpg, maybe you didn't read further into this thread. But if you did and that's still your opinion, I guess you're entitled and I have nothing more I can say.

:( <Sigh> Man, if I knew this was going to turn into such a contraversy, I probably wouldn't have posted. Or better yet, maybe I should've said that I jumped out of a tree and stabbed it with a pocket knife. (that was a joke) Next time I think I'll just keep it to myself. :barf:

Happy shooting guys!

No, No, NO! Ignore the bullies and keep posting! I grew up in Oregon and seeing a beautiful blacktail like that makes me happy:) Now granted, you made mistakes on that hunt (as everyone who has hunted has) but hopefully you learn from them, become a better hunter, and keep posting.

LOL, Ok tyra, will do! And yes, learn from my mistakes I have.

Hey, here's an idea: Being that it's fall and all, why don't some of you post pics of your hunting success this year....?

Will do. Congrats on your first buck...I think you already got the a$$ chewing. years from now when you are experienced, you'll look back on this like we do our teenage years and say man... I Can't believe I did that. The real chewing belongs to the guy who loaned you the rifle. That is someone we could all rip up. Don't let your post scare you. You can learn a ton from this site. I know I have learned as much as I've shared. You can never learn to much or share too much, although you might be second guessing that right now. Keep posting. See my reply to your other post regarding rifle selection. Feel free to shoot me a p.m. if you wish. BTW, when you do buy your own rifle, don't skimp on mounts. Cheap mounts come loose. Look at Burris or Leupold lock in mounts.

Thanks Castn, I appreciate that. And as for me getting scared off, no worries, you guys can't get rid of me that easy!:D I'm pretty thick skinned. And right you are about this site, it is truely a learning plethora (big word, means lots ;)). In case you were wondering, no, I don't really talk like that, just being a smart aleck!

Yeah... Im sure he'll be thinking long and hard about the few posters calling him a slob hunter while he fills his belly with venison... yeah

Don’t sweat the negative comments, gedenke. It’s always the same few members that get on their pedestal to make themselves feel important.

Congratulations on your buck.

It’s always the same few members that get on their pedestal to make themselves feel important.

So then can we assume you consider it ethical hunting to use someone elses rifle and not even consider the sighting in issue?

Looks like it

It's not just this lecture, but all the lectures you and a few others tend to give. He explained the situation, but you never ask for more details. You take it and run with it as an opportunity to show your superiority.

It seems the higher the post count the more one becomes a know-it-all.

Enough is enough!

C'mon guys, can we let this "not" turn into a flame thread? I made a mistake last weekend and learned from it. A few members here gave me the a$$ chewing (or lecture or whatever) that I deserved and I listened to it. I believe we can let this issue go and get on with it....am I alone here or does anyone else agree?

The man came and told us about his mistake (in detail), and asks for nothing more than some input and advice. Most of the posters jumped him (appropraitely?), and he now knows what he did was not wise. He is asking for advice, not put-downs, and is now asking that you let up. I would agree, folks have said their piece, now let it go. Hopefully he got the idea.

gedenke- re-read what folks are so upset about and you may get a few ideas how to change your hunting practices. Everybody has to start somewhere. You made some mistakes, now learn from them and improve. By the way, I still think it's a nice buck, and it took a lot of hard work to get it. Hunting is not all about killing, it's about a relationship with the animals and nature. Like most relationships, people get a little testy about folks not following the rules. Now go get better at it.

I have yet to see a black tail that nice during hunting season! Nice! I live in wa state but will be going to the north eastern side for deer hunting where they have muley and some white tail.
