Oops went to Walmart for Groceries

Do we have enough for our SD needs?
Yes
Do we have enough of what we "want"
No
Do we have enough if zombies come
No

If we keep buying just to keep buying and stockpiling why would the ammo companies lower prices.

Once we can finally get ammo purchases down below pre sandy hook numbers then ammo prices have a good chance of returning to normal. If sales stay steady at pre SH consumption then why would they consider bringing prices all the way back down.

For the second week in a row I was able to walk away with nothing...Last weekend there was 45 and 40 flowing out their ears, and I decided I didn't need anymore. This weekend there was 9, 38 and 223 (wolf) on the shelf. The past 3 weekends I'd spent at least 120 bucks each trip. :o

I kinda kicked myself in the arse for not buying any of the 45. Next weekend I'll probably be upset I didn't buy any 38 or 9mm.

My wife and I shot up a bunch more 38 and 45 this weekend, now I'll be trying to replenish that. LOL

Prices at the retail level are about what they were last year when you can find ammo on the shelf. It's the gun show and reseller prices that are still crazy. I don't use those people for my ammo purchases, so, I've not paid the crazy prices.

And, before the panic I would buy what I could afford to buy. If that was 30 boxes or 3 boxes shouldn't be anyone's concern. If a store wants to limit what I can buy then that is their perogitive. If they don't have a limit, then I'll buy what I want. That's why I wasn't caught with my pants down this time. I bought ammo to shoot and set back for a rainy day. Who knew it was going fo pour.

Maybe all of you "if your not part of the solution" have rounds up the wazoo and haven't actually had to scour up rounds.
Good for you, you are in a better place than I and others are.
Do not armchair QB me because I will buy 3 boxes of 9mm at a price that you think is too high.
150 rounds goes quick, then I'm back to looking for more.

The several Walmarts around here have very good ammo prices; when they have ammo. They just don't have it often; it gets bought out so fast. You have to not mind TulAmmo and white box Winchester for the best prices. I called the closest DE Walmart that sold ARs (30 miles away); where I bought my LE6920-MP last Christmas and was told as of June 1st they stopped carrying all AR type rifles....new policy for their store? Too bad, they had very good prices and selection.

It truly would be nice if things returned to pre-Sandy Hook, but here in AK, supplies are still tight. Many of you have the luxury of ordering online. We can do that too, but the shippers kill us with the fees. a lot of us are forced to buy when we can, limited amounts, whatever we can. Even reloading supplies are scarce, but improving a little. I was able to get a box of 1000 primers(small pistol) two months ago, but have not seen large pistol primers in a very long time. So, I guess I am saying that if the boxes cost a little more than before SH, I'll pay it, but some of us have very few options and are at the mercy of the stores.

Funny, I picked up 1,000rds of Blazer Brass at Gander Mtn online a few weeks ago at 12.89/box with free shipping. Not to mention that most of the reloading houses provide better quality ammo than a lot of the factory new stuff.

Again.. the decent prices are still out there if you're paying attention. If you only get a box here and there at wal mart, I guess $15 is what you can expect for the time being. It will come back down again...

The thing to note is, not everyone buys ammo in bulk. Many gun owners esp the casual shooters that shoot maybe once a month or less just want to buy a couple of boxes at a time. I know quite a few guys like this, they only want to buy what ammo they shoot (which is very little to begin with).

I doubt some calibers will ever return back to the pre-2012 prices. An arbitrary guideline I use was the last 50-round box of 9mm brass I saw at Walmart in Dec2012 for about $12. $15 is not bad at all.

And Yes, there has been a shortage of ammo due to the overwhelming demand...
