Oops. Can't buy more than one handgun a month . . .

I understand the one gun a month thing is to keep you from dealing guns to prohibited persons. When you get a waiver from the state to buy multiple handguns, do you waive your right not to be searched? Do they come to your house in a week and make sure you still have them? If not, how can the law be effective?

"If not, how can the law be effective?"

They don't care if the law is effective, Wayne. Leastways effective at reducing crime. The anti-gun legislators simply don't like guns, and they don't like people who do like guns. They want to make the lives of firearms enthusiasts as difficult as possible.

"waiver from the state to buy multiple handguns"

I believe the intent of the law was to allow a collector to buy a collection or something like a matched engraved pair. Or maybe for someone to buy a relative's collection from the estate, etc.

I honestly don't know if they would approve a request to buy 16 Glocks or 9 Sigmas, etc. I'd bet they wouldn't though.

The one gun a month law is soley designed to prevent you, the law abiding citizen, from buying more than one gun. After all, isn't is sensible. But then you say, "oh well I have my CHL. So I can buy as many as I want".

Can you? So what you are saying is that you have been given "permission" to buy firearms on record. How nice.

For me, I have a 5:1 ratio. For every used gun I buy on the private market (soon to be black market) I buy one new. That way I only have to give up a few when they come.

Yup...Thats the Reason

Gunaholics wives got it passed so they can go shopping more. I like that.
Makes about as much sense as it stopping any crime . Actually it makes more sense.
You guys have to put up with some really stupid laws.

Well here we were having a nice little conversation. Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning or is this a life-long attitude problem? Have I offended you in some way? Do I even know you? Feel free to put me on your ignore list if you don't like me. And it's not a one gun a month law; it's one HANDGUN a month.

Life is full of rules. We can work to change them ( www.vcdl.org ) or get an ulcer ranting. In any event, I've been collecting, well accumulating, guns for going on 50 years and don't have a real desire to buy more than one every so often. Of course, I've never had much of a desire to buy inexpensive or beat-up guns and I'm too cheap, and picky, to buy expensive guns very often.

But hey, my father gave me his newest shotgun for my birthday. Dern, now the cat's out of the bag and the bogeymen know I have it. Oh no, what will I do, what will I do? <shrug> I'll get over it.

Guerini Woodlander 28 ga. :D

I'd been cleaning it and 'storing' it for him between uses anyway, but it's the thought that counts. He tried to give me his favorite Python when I gave him a Cooper Custom Classic some time back, but I wouldn't take it. Now he's gotten even. My turn to think up something - he'll be 84 in January.
