one? or two?

I know several who do carry two, including one who just graduated from the academy where they teach them to carry a backup.

Masaad Ayoob recomends carrying two on different sides in case you get shot on one arm and can't draw your weapon from that side.

I don't usually carry two guns either but to call it dumb that anyone else would is well, dumb.

A lot of cops carry a backup. Most don't. Some are probably required to. Some are probably required to not. Some make the choice, either way. If a cop feels he/she needs to carry a backup, I am all for it. A cop is likely to need to use his firearm on any given day. A citizen carrying concealed is not likely to ever need it. That's the difference.

I have tremendous respect for Mr. Ayoob. If he's recommending that your average CCW citizen carry two guns, then I think he's making a mistake. However, I don't think that's what he's recommending. I believe, when he makes those statements, he's making them for people in a high-risk environment or occupation. In those conditions, it might make sense. For the rest of us, it doesn't.

I can call any behavior dumb if I think it is. I'm not calling the person dumb, just the behavior.

Carry as many as you comfortably can and feel that you need.

Why does it only apply to ammo, but not the gun? I fi can comfortably and without any excess trouble carry a BUG, why would it be "dumb". If your opinion is that you don't need one, that's fine...but why disrespect (by calling their behavior dumb) those that have a different opinion? Call it unnecessary, redundant, overkill or whatever - but "dumb" is disrespectfula nd not "the HighRoad".

Blanket statements again, I love em.

It's dumb because unless you're a cop or a soldier, or maybe an armed bodyguard, there's no legitimate reason to carry more than one gun.

Think about it... How many police officers carry multiple handguns? Two of my best friends are cops. I've asked both of them. Neither of them know any fellow cops that carry two guns.

Now, if cops don't typically do it, and they use their firearms all the time, then why should you? Chances are, you'll never need to use your gun anyway, in your entire life.

Lets preface those statements with more generalizations:
1. Most cops aren't' shooters by choice or inclination , they carry because its part of their uniform and most never have to draw it let alone shoot it.

2. I taught a lot of cops and I shoot with a lot of cops, those who are shooters often carry backup just because they know 'stuff' happens and sometimes their primary is out of order or not in a position to be used, ie. getting a gun snatched from your holster while wrestling a drunk down to the floor. Only the man's inability to release the safety allowed my buddy to retrieve his 380 and put dope # 2 under arrest.

3. Most shootings are at close range and very few shots are fired. Sometimes the exception occurs, especially when you are facing a wolf pack of dumb and young.

Sometimes you just need more. Where I am now I can't imagine needing more than 5 shots from any gun but I have been places where that wasn't true.

I've carried up to five guns and a rifle..On my way to the range!

Seriously though, I have never carried more than one and hardly carry a spare magazine.

Why is it dumb? We don't know what he is carrying, we don't know where he lives or what he does for a living or what he has to face in his daily routine.

Exactly. Some of us carry every day, everywhere, and even have bug ina rug or a truck gun to make up the diff. Some of us carry seldomly, carry a knife everywhere, and trust to discretion otherwise... who is to say what's smart or dumb: some anonymous internet poster, some theoretical firearms guru, some guy I know who may or may not be a cop/lawyer/soldier? Come on... carry what you feel is necessary, be proficient with it, and don't shoot anybody who doesn't deserve it... No wonder they say 'common sense is an uncommon virtue' these days.

side note, does 2 taurii equal one springfield armory or glock?

I guess I don't get the point on this one...

Of the three, I'd probably pick the Springfield. Depending on the specific model of each, though, they can all be great guns.
