One Handgun for the end of the world : Revolver or Pistol?

Gunslinger's comments in another thread got me thinking about this ... Suppose you find yourself in uncivilized conditions for a very long time (your plane crashes on an island, either through a major world war or a natural disaster most of civilization is wipes out, etc.), would you rather have a revolver or a pistol?

I, personally, prefer pistols for a majority of situations and I own more pistols than revolvers. I depend on them for concealed carry, home defense, etc. Even if I found myself caught in a riot, I would still rather be armed with a pistol than a revolver. However, if I was completely cut off from civilazation, I would rather depend on a revolver than a pistol.

How do other members feel about this?

I'm assuming your talking about a semi auto pistol vs. a revolver pistol? Is so, I would rather have the revolver. It would function more reliably and it would have harder hitting calibers. (.44, .454, .450 Lin, .500 Lin, etc.). Although, as a Glock owner, I wouldn't mind a G20 10mm.....

Ruger revolver. I don't want to mess with magazines. The Ruger is the lowest maintenance revolver you can get (and one of the toughest).

I'll take a quad 50, moving is a bit slow unless firing but it will stop anything Im likely to run up against....fubsy.

In an end of the world disaster I picture there to be roving bands of marauders, just trying to take everything that isn't nailed down to improve thier own existance. Faced with a large number of these folks I'd prefer my Sigma in .40 S&W. It has proven to be as reliable as a revolver and holds 16 rounds of pretty good ammo. The only thing I could wish for was a bigger powerhouse than the .40. Maybe that Glock 20 would be the right stuff, I just hate the way a Glcok feels and points....

Fud,

My difficult choice is which revolver, one of my Smith "N" frame 627 Special Editions or my Ruger GP100 (KGP-141)?

Regards.

A Ruger Super Redhawk in 454. Although I agree with oberkommando’s choice of an FA, I prefer DA and faster reloading.

Large caliber (44 or 45) double action revolver. very dependable and you can reload them with almost anything (from matchheads to homemade blackpowder to whitepowder to almost any smokeless) and still have a reasonable stopper.

My trusty 4" Model 66. Accurate as all get-out, reliable, natural pointer with the Pachmyer grips, and with the variety of ammo I have for it versatile enough for just about anything.

One more vote for the Redhawk (.44 will do just fine).

2nd choice - (tied 3 ways) S&W's 66, 686, or Ruger's GP-100.

The Rock is a big autoloader fan, and only owns 1 revolver, but would give the nod here to a .44 mag or one of the .45C/.454 6/7/8 shot wheelguns.

Mags wear and can get lost. Cylinders are attached by steel.
In a situation like you described, you'd have to go revolver.

Of course, this is assumming you would get to pick!
I'd end up with my Glock 30 or 34. Why?
That's what I would have with me when this happened.

Revolver, probably in .357 Mag
