On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me....

In almost 25 years (Dec. 24th is our 25th anniversary) of wedded bliss, my wife has never given me a gun for a gift. Granted, there was little need as I always bought my own. So… this year, after me springing for the new wedding ring set perched on her finger, she decides to buy me, not one, but two firearms… Wow!

I love her dearly, but the woman needs help! She's beaming with satisfaction at having floored me with the gift, not knowing the choices she made have me almost as shocked as the gesture itself.

At least she got the caliber right, and they are stainless, one's full size and the other is a lightweight compact, and they do make a nice set, but…

Springfield 1911s?! The grand master of Glock Perfection can't have 1911s!

Can he?!

I guess he can, 'cause I got 'em...{sigh} :(

That's great! Enjoy them with pride (in the guns AND your wife).

My wife is getting me a Kimber Stainless Compact Lightweight for Christmas, along with having an ambi safty installed, and a custom holster for CCW. Of course, I had to write a detailed list of what needed to be done for all this, but she is the trooper and is following the directions to the "T".

9x19, just remember the value in the gift is the giving/receiving. you can always take them to the range under the cover of darkness so that none of your glock buddies see you with them. afterall, what they don't know won't hurt your feelings. now if you still can't reconcile owning a pair of 1911s, give 'em to me, i'll receive them quite happily. *grin*

you have yourself a wonderful woman there, it always seems that i have to buy the guns for my wife. she's a fellow shooter, and the last 2 were purchased for her <ok we traded one for the other> but now she's talking about getting another "backup" gun of the same caliber...just in case.

Hey, congradulations. My ex would have never done ANYTHING like that. If you need an excuse to shoot and enjoy them...aside
from the actual enjoyment of shooting them, just tell your buddies...you are doing it because you care about your wife!
Shoot well

Your wife has WISDOM

Beyond her years. Now is your chance, 9x19. Go shoot those Springfields! Enjoy them. Try them before you judge them. If you love them, you don't even have to tell the forumites. Just give them a whirl. The Lord works in mysterious ways! :D

9x19,

You are absolutely correct, that really cannot happen... it is wrong every angle you look at it, go ask anyone. Being the kind-hearted person I am, I will buy you a nice Glock in exchange for both of those .45s of icky 1911 design. :D

On a more serious note, I think you'll be thanking your wife a bundle for those 1911's in about a year... about the time of your (1911) conversion, which is inevitable. Oh yes, you'll be singing the praises of the 1911 along with the rest of us. ;) I'm serious!

Sounds to me like your wife has better taste in guns than you do...hang on to her...she could do wonders for your gun collection!

Having, myself, been accused...

...before, on another board, of being the Chief of the "Glock Gestapo", maybe this picture will restore your self-respect:

Yup, they're both Springfields. Yup, love em both.

You got a heck of a gift; enjoy!

Umm... Tamara, just how do those "polymer" mag pouches, in the pic, attach to your belt? :D

Thanks for all the thoughts folks, and while I wouldn't have bought them for myself, I do appreciate them. I was, once upon a time, a die-hard 1911 fan, then found the Glock's simplicity, and went to the other extreme.

I suppose this gift puts me astride the fence, instead of racing around on either side like my hair's afire! :D

I guess that's a good thing...

Congratulations. A piece of advice from a fool. Never, never get rid of either of those guns. My wife bought me an M1A a few years ago. I later stupidly traded it towards a HK SR9T. The M1A was not only a better gun, but I commited a breach of etiquette in my act. Keep the Springfields. You may discover that 1911s are better guns than Glocks. It could happen.

Congratulations on both the guns and being married 25yrs.

I must say that my wife bought me my very first gun 2yrs ago Christmas a Ruger GP100, just got involved with shooting a couple months prior to that.
I now have 9 guns and 3 of them were gifts from my loving wife :)
And this Christmas she struck again she got me a Ruger 3" SP101.
Sometimes its fun being married  LOL!!!

My thoughts:

Keep the guns. Keep the peace. Keep the sanity. The wife is definitely a keeper. :D

To paraphrase another TFL'er, 'no collection is complete without at least one 1911'. Never hurts to own a piece of history, and as noted, you just may come to appreciate the gun. You can always buy a Glock later.

(I'm turning green from envy...)

:p

For real, be STOKED! These things are gifts from her heart. Treat them as such, honor them. They might not be the slickest kill-em-dead pieces but they are presents of love.

You really can't beat that! All your other guns? Just stuff you wanted and traded for them dern green rectangles.

I would have been happy to get some piecer .380. And I am an HK/Glock guy! 1911s are awesome. It's not like she got you a pink shirt or barfy tie! You can USE these things :D

Now go tell her how much you love her and cradle your TWO new family members!

I know how you feel..... my girlfriend decided to purchase a Dillon 550b with a bunch of dies and optional accessories for my xmas present. And this after going steady for 6 months only!

The Dillon has been at her house for a couple days, but I of course can't have it until the 25th. And to top it off, she brought the instructional video over yesterday and made me watch it! Talk about a tease.

Enjoy!

Yes, kind of a dual hommage. DCD was one of my favorite groups, especially as a misguided youngster lost in art-school in the 80's. Saw them live a couple times prior to the break-up. Also used to be a voracious reader, and the epic-poem of the same title by Charles Baudelaire was an inspiration for my nick....plus it's difficult to get the name you want on a lot of boards. :)

When you have fired the springfields and have mastered their uniqueness grasshopper, then you are ready!

Enjoy them, it's quite a gift.
