Oldest gun you hunt with?

Oldest one I hunt with (or own) is my '46 M44.

Have a '72 Hi-Power that goes after bunnies and squirrels, but that really doesn't seem very old.

oldest

Shotgun - a Parker VH 12 gauge....not sure of the year.

(added info 12/14/2011.) Found the date - made in 1905.

Ted Williams 30/30

I use my Ted Williams 30/30 sold through Sears. (Winchester) made and purchased out of cataolog by my father now passed on to me, soon to be my grandson's. Special to us simply because of the cataolog purchase of gun from Sears, boy has the world changed since then Huh? It has been on many family hunts and responsible for more whitetail harvests than we can recall.

I was given a Colt double barrel
shotgun, dom 1887 damascus bbls,
twin hammers.
I ordered some #6 black powder shot
shells form Navy Arms, went out
and shot a couple phesants.
You couldn't see the bird until
the smoke went away.
She's now a wall hanger.

I shot one box of ammo (10)while
the gun was tied to two sapplings,

Yanked on a couple strings to test it.
I'm afraid to shoot it now as I'm not
indestuctable "anymore".

1873 Springfield Trapdoor (.45-70) occasionally. Bought it in 1963.

'92 Winchester made in 1893 (.44-40) is a regular deer gun for me. My Grandfather bought it new.

Compared to some shotguns being used by many of you, my Browning Double-Auto is a youngster. But I purchased it new in 1961 and still hunt grouse and woodcock with it every year.

I use a Stevens SxS 16 ga from sometime around 1930 for birds. Hard to find a decent ammo selection around my area but I love the gun. It's light, fits me well and shoots true. Who could ask for anything more?

'52 Winchester Model 25, 12 ga
'46 Mosin M38

My grandfather bought the Mod 25 for $35, in terrible condition, in about 1973. (The stock was held together by coiled copper wire. ...obviously replaced, before the first use.) In about 1988, my father had a lost primer blow up in the action, and blow chunks out of the (new) butt stock. It was repaired with the splinters we pulled out of my father, and the rifle found its way to me.

It had seen so much use, that I had to repair the trigger, safety, and hammer. They were just worn out. ;)
Now, it's safe, reliable, and used whenever possible.

Other than the patina it has, you'd never know the rifle had such a rough history.

I took my 2nd deer,,,

With an 1878 trap-door 45-70 manufactured in 1883.

My first was with a British Mk-3,,,
That would be, what?,,,
late 1930's?

My last three were with a WW-II bring-back 8mm Mauser,,,
It's a K-98 so I'm assuming at least before 1940.

If I ever go deer hunting again,,,
It'll be with a Model 629,,,
From a tree stand.

MOdel of 1921 Savage 12 ga pump

Every spring turkey season, for at least a couple of hunts, I take my Granddad's 1921 pump.

Cosmetically, it resembles a Model 12, but the internals are different. Very nice old gun, 28" bbl, solid rib, very dark walnut stock and foreend. Choked full of course, 2-3/4" chamber.

Once the leaves come out and the shots usually get shorter, the 2-3/4 load suffices for gobblers inside 30 yds. Lots of memories, but a few hunts reminds me it is not a dedicated turkey gun. No sights, bead only, no sling, to long, to heavy, and it cannot pattern as tight as my purposed 870.

April 1980, a jake gobbler waltzed in to my tenative yelps, as I balanced the long Savage over a log, and one 15 yd shot later, I was ruined.

Also have a picture of my Pap and two other fellows, circa 1925, with about 100 rabbits strung up. Pap has the Savage cradled in his forearm.

Rifle; 1886 Winchester in .33 WCF, and a 1949 Remington 721 bolt action .270.

Shotgun; 1920's H&R Heavy Breach 10 Ga. I still have some old Remington Shur-shot shells for it Grandad bought in the 30's.

Old guns are COOL. Old guns passed down through the family are priceless...;) They work fine and when I take them out, its almost as if my grandfathers are with me on the hunt.
